Pooky's 300

Brian, I am in the same exact boat. Looks like I better put on that 4th light and blast some corals to smithereens, or what's left of them

Well, one of the guys I talked to who was hawking LEDs at his booth said LED bulbs have an average life of about 5 years. That's one of the reason that make it appealing with the cost savings in new MH bulbs every 8-9 months. Let's say you have to change the bulbs 8 times in those 5 years at an average of $80 a pop, that's already $640 right there.

Any savings would be welcomed. This hobby is too damn expensive, it's up there with golf I bet!

I have a friend that has been running LED over his tank for a couple of yrs now. His coral look great but he doesn't keep SPS. Until there is long term success with SPS I'm not sold.

Haha yea, can prolly run a desk lamp with small pcs and softies will still thrive.

Well you do have a taller tank than me. But after seeing Terry's tank, which is same dimension as mine except his is 6" deeper (front to back), he's only using 2 250w radiums and 4 HO t5's compared to my 3 250w and 2 vho and 2 t5's. I think my tank is hella bright as it is, but Terry's tank doesn't seem to be under-lite at all.

I think I saw Terry's tank before he got his current light fixture. I thought back then that the had a lot of dim areas all the way around the tank, which isn't really a bad thing. You can definitely keep lower light corals on the fringe. Maybe it's time I check it out again.

I think there are a lot people who like the idea of LED's, but since there is not really any proof of success stories, its just a hard bandwagon to jump on. It sure would help in keeping our temperatures down and open the door for many cool fish :D

The Giesemann fixtures have some really nice reflectors and I have been impressed with the spread and performance they give. Reflectors mean so much.
I think you should add a 4th one for sure Kenny, but thats coming from the man with 1000 watts of radiums over his 6 foot tank. That always sounds so cool

That's not fair!!! When you gonna check out my tank?:hammer:

What are the dimensions of your tank? How high are the LME's above the water?

I'm doing 750w over 5 footer, am I cool enough for you Mark?

Edison or whoever is up there must LOVE you :hammer:

Hey Ricky, the tank is 6'x3'x27" high. Lucky for you, I just measured it and the pendants sit at 10" above the water surface :)

Well, I'm also running a 250w over my frag tank. This is my first full month with both set ups running so I'm very curious what my elec bill is.

I run 1750 watts of radium at my house  I also have a shallow tank that is still getting a make over ;)
