Dan, you should definitely give them a shot. They add a lot of color to the tank. Try Tom's shop. Last time I was there, he had quite a few pieces available. Make sure you get the ones with the red mouths like in my pic. If you can, get a fairly larger piece and not the 1 or 2 head frags. They don't grow much for me so it'll take a while to grow out.

The red tip Dendros are from Australia, if I am not mistaken. The old school ones are more orange/yellow throughout. I have both and the Aussie is definitely more striking in person.

Here are some pix of the GEO kalk reactor in action. I really do like this one a lot more than the older style MRC I had. It's much easier to use and maintain.

Sitting at idle. The drain valve is a nice feature when you need to break down the reactor for cleaning.

With the pump in action. The stirred up part is just slightly more than half way up the chamber so the top part is always clear. That's where the water leaves the reactor.

Another cool feature I like is the kalk refill port. You simply unscrew the little cap at the top and pour in the refill. No messiness involved in taking off the entire top. The tubing connected to my Tunze Osmolator without problems. The change out was much simpler than I had initially thought.

I am actually thinking 2xT5 and 2x VHO actinics now. Of course, I still need to get a new attachment for the light rack so I can add another pendant.

Well, if it's "nonworking", then the more reason you need to get a working one. Before you buy, try SoCal Tropical Fish. Tom will give you a smokin' deal.

well, when the osmolator kicks in, it does sort of stir up the kalk ever since the stirrer went bye-bye. So maybe I should have said "poorly working" instead of "nonworking". :lol: I may have to give Tom a call.

Don't mention VHO's Kenny. Have you seen all those people with a long list of different clubs in their signature line. Those T5 people are out to change the world

There's nothing wrong with mixing it up a bit Mark

I'm doing a little VHO, a bit of T5 and throwing in some LED just for fun!

Seriously, I kept burning up my supplement T5's so I'm back to VHO's for that. I'll stick to T5's that come in a nice fixture only!

Thats for sure Sara. I like to mix things up; I like blue acros, red acros, purple acros and yellow acros as well :lol:

Yes, I did, but it's probably not the one you are thinking of.


No worries about yesterday. It was just a spur of the moment thing. Didn't know I would actually have free time until it smacked me in the face.

Sara, I've noticed that too with the IceCap 430 ballast driving the 2 foot T5's on the frag tank. It seems the whiter bulbs won't last more than a few months and the bluer bulbs only about 6-8 months. Hope the 660 works a bit better with the 5 footers.
