Not to re-rail the thread or anything. But how often are you cleaning your sump? It looks really clean. No salt creep or anything. Same with your skimmer cup. It looks brand new. Mine has a thick, hardened layer of sludge I just cant get off.

Muriatic acid is your friend my man. You can buy it at Kroger or any grocery store that has a small spa or pool section. You run you skimmer in the acid diluted in water for about an hour and you will think you bought a new skimmer. If you get really driven you can run a bunch of diluted acid in your sump with the skimmer in it outside overnight too. Just rinse everything really well before you reinstall it. You seriously will not believe it's the same equipment when you're finished.

I clean my sump and skimmer cup with a old tooth brush and sponge almost every other day and never allow the build up to take place because I love it all clean.

Evan is driving home right now. Let's hope his tank is doing fine when he gets there. :)

Everything in my tank looked great when I arrived back home. I had my Yasha Goby/Pistol Shrimp pair from Marc which I immediately acclimated and put in my prop tank (they look awesome against the black sand as planned but the lights were out :().

I stole one of Marc's RBTAs that split in his angled tank, as if I had room and it went in my main display. I used my trick that has been discussed elsewhere* to put him in the spot that I want him to stay. He's happy and attached to the rock for the moment. I hope my clown will take to him as I had to give up my old RBTA and clown pair years ago when my system had to come down for about 4 months.

Also, a DFWMAS member/listener was nice enough to give me some gorgeous zoas that are anything but green after my complaints of too much green. They went in my display as well.

The two water changes done after the chemi clean treatment seemed to do the trick as my skimmer hasn't had much to do in the last two days that I have been at Marc's.

As stated my lights were out as I got stuck in traffic somehow at 8pm on a Saturday night between Dallas and Fort Worth :( But I did take some night pictures of what I could for you guys. They will be in my next post :)

The Goby/Shrimp pair in the prop tank is an awesome Idea. Can't wait to see some pics of them.

I kinda want to get an Angler for my fuge. Put that thing to good use.

Marc these first two were taken last week and are pretty much for you to look at my amazing phyto in less than one month and wish you were as cool as me

Those two above were taken on the 24th. These two that follow were on the 2nd for comparison.

I know I had said I would take night shots of my new battery backup discussed in detail earlier in the thread. Here it is on it's side in the room. Sorry for the blurry pic but they get better and I wanted you to see how it looks in the whole room.

The next three I rotated so you could see the screen and read the numbers. It's nice that you can see all these details and it even tells you how much % you are currently using. It's at 31% overall with the Mag7 return only. When the power goes out, it tells you how much of the battery is left and how much time estimated until you are done. So handy.

My red dragon's breath that Marc gave me is really thriving in my fuge. It has tripled in size and there isn't much room for what little caulerpa is left. I just keep pulling out caulerpa and feeding it to my rabbitfish.

Evan,
i just purchased a lot of stuff to finally start my own 29. this thread has inspired me a bit and i plan on running a drain and return identical to yours. from the back of the tank, how did you set up your drain pipe? all i noticed was the strainer in the overflow. is it a durso style? do you have any problems with noise from the drain pipe at all?

btw, congrats on your cert.

thanks,
Dan

Thanks! I'll try and get you more pics of the drain design. It's very much in a corner atm but I'll do my best. It's durso style and does have the snail guard in the overflow horizontal. The noise with draining a Mag7 return was loud at first until I made the air hole larger. Now it is quite quiet actually.

It will make quite a bit of noise regardless of your air hole size until the plumbing slimes over so give it about a week then increase the size of the hole to your liking.

Good luck, let me know if I can help you in any way seriousy! I'm honored that you like mine enough to follow some of my crazy ideas :p

Evan. I just read this thread from front to back (started before work and finished it as I just got home >.<) and I love it. You're doing great with the tank. I don't post here very often at all, but definitely after going through this and well, after keeping up with Marc and all that he's done, I'll definitely be around much MUCH more often. Keep it up man.

wow, nice phyto culture. can you explain to me how/ what you used to start it. and what you do to maintain it.

Marc did a nice write about about my method a while back that you can find here. Scroll down to the update.

I use about 10ml per gallon of the same Miracle Grow he mentions in that write up. The plastic Lazy Susan I added recently allows me to shake the bottle about twice a day to keep settlements from forming without ever having to pick up the bottle.

Let me know if you have any questions after you read that. It's really easy and I've never had a bottle crash. Although if you want to make one crash just send it to Marc :)

No prob. It's a Power Sentry 104230 1000VA UPS with Advanced LCD read out. I got it from ThingFling.com for 89 bucks shipped since I had been checking all those daily give away sites for months for a good one. Although I believe the best I have seen it for other than that one day deal is just under $200 from Walmart.

That culture looks slightly alive, so I didn't dump it. I just shook it up instead.
