In that review he says that he recommends running the Generation 1 models (without TIR lenses) on a 90g tank at 60-70% tops. He then says if he still had that tank he would dial it down to 45-50% max. On his 375 tank with 4 Radion Pros he runs them at 20%, saying maybe he would go up to 30%.

That seems very counter-intuitive to me. Do you mean to tell me that even on the oldest models, you should not run them at full blast for any point in the day? What's the point of upgrading to the improved models, then?

I think it depends on your programming. If you're running the *hi growth* program, I could see how you wouldn't want to run at full blast. On the other hand, if you're running a progressive ramp why wouldn't you want it to hit 80% or > at some point? It's only for a VERY brief period of time...

it really depends on how your corals can take the high intensity .

I have Gen 1 with TIR so i lowered down to 25% peak as the corals have browned out due to the high intensity .

LEDs are very different compared to T5 and mh

Ok I have questions

How do you know you sps are getting to much light from the LEDs ?

How do you know if you sps are not getting enough light from LEDs

I may have missed on echothech web sight but I don't see any mention of lowering the intensity of there fixture when first installed over a tank

I have been running this Graph and I don't see any real improvement in color other then my blue stag getting lighter and my strawberry short cake is no Lon ger green with red tips its just pink looking . I was thinking that the LEDs were not enough what do you guys and gals think?

I think you have too much light. All of my corals suffered when I kept a high profile thinking it would cause high growth and color. Sps colors slightly bleached, my anemones weren't red but pink. I backed it down and now everything is darker and growth is back on track. LEDS are more than enough power for Sps.

Here is my current plan that I have had for the last 7 months.

Well you are making an assumption that I took a before picture thinking that I would need it now to show the difference. My after is the Par Picture and I have darkened a little more since getting the pro. I don't know if the UV has something do with it. Everyone wants to crank them up. With great power comes great responsibility. Turn them down and you will be happy. But not too low that you brown out.

A single ended 400 watt radium on an icecap ballast and 2 x 24" 75 watts each watts of VHO super actinics total was 150 watts

800am actincs on
1200pm radium on with actincs on
800 pm radiums off
1030 pm actincs off

I would do a smilar graph to what I use. If you Pm me with your email. I can send you my graph and you can see if you like it. My sps and monti caps have darkened up since I switched to it.

Does anyone know what spectrum both A) Natural Mode (Shallow) and B) Natural Mode (Blue) closest resemble? I have been running A) for a long time and just changed to B) today to add some blue, and the color difference is awesome... I'm just thinking of the PAR I might be losing..

Anyone?

How significant is the fluorescence improvement under the pro? I don't need the extra power, but I am wondering if the pro is worth the extra cost for the color improvements?

The pro is cool with the yellow and the uv. If you have the money go Pro, if not the gen 2 will work and you can always send them back for an upgrade in the future. I have a gen 2 over the left side and a pro over the right. The colors of the corals do seem to be similar but my monti over the pro side seems to have colored up and darkened over the last month.
