Re: Angelfish flesh disorder . . .

Has anyone experienced a Dwarf Angel having it's skin/flesh erode around their nostrils/eyes/mouth?

It almost appears like HLLE found in freshwater fish. I don't know if that occurs in saltwater but I digress.

BTW, the water parameters are ideal and all the other inhabitants appear fine.

Any idea's?

HLLE does occur in saltwater fish. If you have a picture it might help with identifying the problem.

I have a coral beauty that is this way some days it seems better, other days worse. It acts normal though. Eats as good or better than any of my other fish.

Isn't HLLE caused by a stray voltage? Try getting a grounding probe, and check all outlets and plugs for signs of water damage, etc.

JM . . . mine is a coral beauty too and the symptoms match up with your descriptions as well. Sounds like it's HLLE which, in my experience, can be attributed to any number of things.

I did check for stray voltage after I found this affliction was found in saltwater species but I didn't find any. I have dealt with this in freshwater cichlids and I've found it's not terminal in most cases. It does however disfigure the fish but what can you do . . .

I bought my CB this way from a LFS. I bought it because I felt sorry for it. They had it in with a bunch of damsels and at first I thought it had just been picked on, but the places never did heal up. My brother in law has a blue hippo tang that fits the description of this as well. It looks really bad.

Perhaps a Vitamin C deficiency. Do your fish get "nori" or sheet algae to munch on? I haven't had any problems with HLLE since I've added this to their diet daily. A bit on a clip every day. They love it.

My coral beauty is the exact same way. It is in a tank with a pair of anthias and always goes for the meat treats and leaves the nori for the tang.

I am struggling with what to do for it. I do not want to starve the Sunburst Anthias and the CB just watches the nori as the Tomini tang gobbles it up.

I tried feeding nori in sheets and they will not touch it. I guess I need to work on the training. Likely similar to a child, if you let them eat junk food all of the time they will.

Do you soak the food in any type of vitamin supplement? That might help if it's a vitamin deficiency.
