Reef Octopus "POV" PRO-SSS-DC1 thoughts?

6-1/4" on 2 pcs of egg crate. If I remove the extra pc I put under it, that puts me in
6.5" of water. But then all I get is chugging

I'm uploading video I just shot of it. Listen to the clicking noises the motor is making. I put my cellphone right against the neck, so you can here it.

Yes, I don't know what the height is of the valve, but the water level is
6-1/4" inches.

I believe I have a bad motor and impeller

If you put your finger over the silencer hole, which will make the skimmer overflow, but it will not be sucking air, does it make noise (a bad noise) not just the pump running? If not I would rule out the pump.

That valve is way too high if it looks like it is in the video. when you get a chance take some pics of the valve, if you are in 6.5 inches of water that valve should not be that high, that is strange.

Here is how mine sits in the sump in a little over 6.5 inches of water:

I just lowered it, it's now in 6-1/2" of water. I noticed you have the british adapter on, I had mine on, just removed it, I'll try the same thing

You look like your closer to 7" , maybe I should take out one more egg crate?

Ok, thanks for the video. I can tell your output is lower then mine. I removed all the egg crate , which was 1/2" and now I'm at 6-3/4". On level 4 or 5, all it does is chug

I have it on 6 now, but it's small chugs, put, put, put, put sounds like. Weird

Funny thing is, the neck has smaller bubbles and seems to be more consistent at this depth and on level 6

I'll check it again tomorrow morning before work.

This is the 3rd night since this weekend I been up till 12:30am adjusting this thing

Thanks for your help. It defiantly improved it somewhat

Jonny,

I uploaded just audio (still not very good). Let me tell you at power 6 even with your settings I want to throw this out the door! It seems even louder now. At power level 3 its okay with less sound or no chugging.

I emailed Scott from Aquarium Specialty who recommended this skimmer to me. I will await for his email.

Yeah, mine does not sound like that, that's a shame. Im uploading a video now, the best i can get without my pumps on.

I have the same noise. I belive your output valve is to deep

Raise the skimmer a bit, LMK

Mine is doing the same thing right now in 6-3/4" of water & 6-1/2" of water

I have to put it way outta the water, so it doesn't chug

I'll shoot another video of the chugging

Man, this sucks. I really had high hopes for this skimmer. I wanted to buy it but this thread has me thinking twice. I think I'm going to go with the ATB 840 V2. Thanks everybody for posting your problems and help me come to a decision.

There are still many people in this thread, including myself that have no issues and are very happy with the skimmer. It just seems the problem ones overshadow the good ones because the people that have a good version don't post much (since theirs works). GIven my experience I would still recommend this skimmer.

Jonny,

If I ever get motivated and drive hour north of me I will drop this off at your house lol. Seriously though it's a shame because I do like the design.

Also, I did hear some of that grinding noise too! Sigh. I will take it apart this weekend with some photos.

The grinding in my videos is my return pump, the impeller needs to be replaced.

Stop by anytime lol.

I agree with Johnny. Even though I have been through hell with this skimmer ( past 3 nights up till 12:AM ) adjusting every adjustment possible, If they refund me, I'm either going to buy another PROV-DC, or upgrade to a DC

Unless theirs a comparable design as new as this that I'm missing, everything I've read about skimmers before buying this was very positive about Reef Octopus

Aqua EV, and bubble king also had great reviews

My problem is, I want the latest and greatest of everthing

So I'm not giving up yet, even though I'm ready throw this skimmer out the window

Now If they refund me and I buy another DC-1 or DC-2, trust me, everyone will hear how I bought 2 defective units , which I'm sure will not be the case.

Like Jonny said, don't let a few, or even if it's 10% of the market ruin It if they are defective, because I'm sure Coral Vue doesn't want a class action lawsuit against them for putting out a defective product and not warrantying their product, which comes with a manufacture warranty

I'm running an old Vertex IN series skimmer now and it skims like crazy. My problem is that I want the latest and greatest too. I might be nuts replacing my current skimmer because it's doing such a great job.

This skimmer appeared to be the latest and greatest at the begining of this thread and it really peaked my interest. But after reading the problems with some of them it worries me buying one. I read all about the ATB 840 V2 and couldn't find one single mention of a problem with it.

I don't really want to spend the money on a headache. I'm really torn because I like the design of this skimmer with the dc pump.

What to do.... what to do....

Will people please start posting good stuff about this skimmer! Help me decide.
