Reef Octopus "POV" PRO-SSS-DC1 thoughts?

I re installed my 8 year old EuroReef and will package and ship my DC 1 back next week. Going forward, I'm not sure what I want to do. I like the design and the visible quality and would have preferred if RO would have simply sent a replacement DC-1 weeks ago. Its a PITA to clean and pack then re-set and break-in, but I would have been game to try. Not so sure what to do now.

I believe the word "chug" may have been incorrectly interpreted (in China?) to mean "noise" and the reason they sent us mufflers. But, that isn't the problem. With the bubble column pulsing vertically, there was no way for mine (and some others) to be productive. Air inlet noise was easily controlled with a home made muffler, (zero effect on the problem) and the pump is supremely quiet. But, at the end of the day skimming was ineffective, the inmates revolted and their Union called for a strike vote.

A new POV will not fix your issue. We have send out replacements to several users with issues with no avail. We have sent complete pump assembly that was tested with no errors out to a user with no avail. We have a total of 5 reports and no one has returned their skimmer for review even the ones that we sent out a replacement. We do not have any more available at this time and do will not send out anymore till we can figure out the solution to the issue of the 5 problematic skimmers. I can offer you the same offer as the other 5 users. You can send the skimmer in clean and undamaged and we will in return contact your place of purchase to claim a credit or refund. This is the fastest solution we can provide at this time.

I don't think a new one would make a difference since I bought mine 7/19/13. I put in a ticket and hopefully we can proceed. Soon as I get word from Jeremy I will have this guy cleaned up and shipped back to them.

Just finished cleaning and packaging mine up, what a pain that was. Put the original box in an even larger box to protect it. Don't want the original box, or skimmer, to take any damage and give them an excuse not to give me my refund!

UPS was supposed to deliver my new skimmer today, but looks like it will be tomorrow instead...really dislike UPS, wish more people used FedEx.

I put in a ticket. Now I just have to wait and hear back from Jeremy. I also gave aquarium specialty the heads up.

Hope they authorize a return/refund for you! Personally can't wait to be DONE with this skimmer nonsense. More important things to do with my tank, like enjoy it.

"credit or refund"

I made certain that I would get a refund and not credit. Would advise anyone planning to send their skimmer back to clarify that with Jeremy before hand.

I need more testing but I think my problem as Jeremy pointed out I was choking it. Even Jonny pointed it out, but for some reason when I had the gate valve all the way open before it still chugged. I tried a few more things I think the chugging <might> be controlled at power 6. However, it is too loud (air intake) for me on power 6 even 4 is pushing it.

Looking for solutions for the air intake that wont effect performance.

I will let it go overnight and see how it plays out for now.

You have to raise the skimmer out. The top of the output should have at least a 1/4' to 1/2" below the water for air to escape

I kept lifting mine up, adding 1 pc of 1/4" egg crate at a time

Jeramey can send you a silencer for the air intake, I can't hear mine now

My problem is, It skim's perfect, for hours, then looses it's head, and starts to chug

I'm going to upgrade to the DC2 , in hopes it will not have the same issues

What is your bio load? Maybe it is skimming everything out and there is nothing left to skim. Keep in mind i have a 90G with 8 fairly decent sized fish in it and i do not do regular water changes.

Good to hear, I would just leave it at 6 and let it do its thing for a week, you will start to see it skimming better each day.

This is what i have since i cleaned it really good on Aug 1st. So about 5 days worth.

I may upgrade to the DC2

I can come over and dump my skimmer cup in your sump :lolspin:

It will be skimming like crazy then.

Im willing to bet unless you up your fishes you will have the same issue with the DC2
