Reeflo/Sequence Skimmer Club

JRaquatics, where can I get the new venturi? I still have the oldschool original design.

In my opinion, comparing skimmers is extremely difficult. I've been watching the ATB threads, and it looks very promising. If I had a different budget, I might have bought one of those. But, for the dollar, I think the reeflo is a better option.

How tall is the Reeflo 250? I've got one retailer spec'ing it at 48"H, while another specs it at 32"H...

I am not sure. I got mine from Reef Specialty so I can test the mesh and now the Pin Wheels prototypes with both venturis. I would contact CoralVue and see if they are available for purchase.

The old venturi is a tight L shaped entry towards the pumps volute. The new venturi is straight down and is diverted by a cone style opening.

Thank you... The height difference being the neck length and larger collection cup only? In other words, the reaction chamber is the same size in both cases?

That is correct. The cup is just larger and taller but the body is the same.

PM me your email address and i can send you pictures of what i yank out of my collection cup. It is nasty! I have had more expensive skimmers on much bigger tanks and they dont do what this one does. Just the other day a deltec worshipper saw this thing in action and is going to make a change at the first of the year! The only regret is that I dont have enough room under my tank to put the taller neck on! Well, the directions aren't that great but who cares! Mike at www.reefspecialty.com answered most of mine before I even had a chance to ask them! If you find someone with a regret they probably were dropped on their head as a small child....

buy it! Let it break in...and then enjoy having the best skimmer on the market!

which ones have you had that were bigger and more expensive?
I'm leaning towards reeflo, just because i am not sure i can justify such a big pricetag, but i would love for somebody to tell me that there is no preformance difference!

Hey Reefguy is your tank 155 gallons? How much skimmate do you get in a day? I have a Euro Reef CS8/2 8'' diameter and 24'' tall with a 120 gallon tank it seems that my skimmer is too large, I get about a cassette tape wide in two days if I am lucky, so I would think that your skimmer would be over sized also, it appears that your skimmer is more efficient.

I have a precision marine collection cup that usually fills about 3-4 inches a week before i dump...but more importanly the stuff in my hand is pulled out of the water column....the first picture was taken during break in period......i am quite happy with my results....my wife gets squeamish when i dump the collection container and clean the skimmer neck

collection chamber

Have any of you found a US supplier for metric PVC fittings and pipe? I'm looking at redoing my setup so I am going to need a new insert for the union at the drain.

Thanks for the pictures, I think your wife might get squeamish with that hand LOL I was concerned that the Orca 200 might be overkill since the last skimmer is too large for my tank. I thought I had enough of a bio load but I guess not. Thanks again Too bad companies don't rent them for a month so I could make a more informed decision .

JR,

Do you have any measurments on just the reaction chamber of the 250, i think the 200 is the same. Im comparing it to the SM300 for my new 300 gal tank. Torn between the two. Looking to see which has the taller reaction chamber for incresed dwell time. The reeflo is taller, but being an external the box on the bottom takes up some height.

thanks...

Skimmer set up question for the experts.

I have had my skimmer running for a little over a month and no mater what i do i can not get it dialed in right. Here is how i have it.

Dart NW off - water level in between the reeflo lettering with the wedge valve wide open. Skimmer is running off the return manifold with 1 inch flex pipe. If i turn the NW pump on the bubbles are large and i get watery skimmate and the skimmer overflows.

Set up two.

Wedge valve wide open and water level set at black collar and NW pump on - small bubbles in the neck but water just pours over and floods the collection cup

Set up three

NW pump off, wedge valve wide open water in the reeflo letters. I turn the wedge valve to raise water to the middle of the black collar......turn pump on and water overflows?

What am i doing wrong? It has been approx 6 weeks since it has been set up but it still goes crazy.

The only way i can get fine bubbles in the neck is to restrict the air valve about 60% and then i can get some tiny bubbles.

All set ups are with the air valve running wide open.

Please help as i really like this skimmer but i am getting discouraged.

This is a stock Reeflo 250 that is about 2 months old.
