Reefsavvy's Ghost Overflow: Patent Pending?

its probably friend deals or friends made at trade shows. it's whatever, even when i win the lotto i'm not buying anything from them.

No build thread on them but I will be doing one for the 180 soon. I almost have all the pieces together to get building "Minus the overflow". It will be a peninsula layout with bean animal style on a 24" side.

The reef savvy's will likely be for sale locally in a few months unless I keep the 70 for a frag tank.

I sent them an email over al Reef Savvy..
Hi Jeremy,

The final details on the Ghost Overflow are being ironed out and will be released in the next couple of months.

Thank you,

Felix

Hello,

I would REALLY like a Ghost Overflow on my next build (93 cube) Do you have any I can buy? Where can I get one? Is this a dead product already?

Thank you for your help
Jeremy J.

so... apparently this company is incredibly slow..

This is why. http://synergyreef.com/where-to-buy-our-products/

Synergyreef builds the ghost overflow. From their website.

Currently during the construction and completion of our new facility we are not taking orders or in production. We do not have any stock left from 2014.

That doesn't mean you simply can't have someone else make one. There's nothing about the utility of the product that is patented or even patentable for that matter. Maybe some features or design patents, but that's about it.

Indeed. See Post #1.

The design itself is grossly inferior to the very idea it was copied from: Beans overflow.

How do you figure? It's just a means of utilizing the beananimal style overflow while only having to drill 2 holes.

It is only 24" long and has teeth so even when it is perfectly clean, it is effectively only a 12" overflow. What you really want is a smooth weir, as close to the full length of the tank. The drain systems is only half the equation. Plus the water level sits too low in the tank, so you couldn't use it on a rimmed tank.

Exactly right! There's nothing about the ghost overflow that hasn't been done countless times before. Easy enough to make your own, or find someone with a facilty for acrylic and have them make the boxes for you. Heck, I had an external scupper box and internal skim box on a reef tank 20 years ago.
