Regal Angel Primer

Just an update. I am on day two of the Prazi. It is still eating pellets but is a bit more reclusive. I did notice shaking of the head today a couple of times which I believe indicates flukes. The fluke on its pectoral fin is still there though. How long would it take for it to drop off if it is a fluke?
 
I have no idea. I have never used Formalin before. I always use TTM and Prazi for all my new additions. I have not used TTM in this case as I am not sure how the Regal would react. So I am using more of an observe method for ich. I always thought that Prazi was for flukes.

100% certainty it has flukes with head shaking. I would do a water change and dose PP again tomorrow

Ok. Do the water change today or tomorrow before I dose? Is a 50% water change enough? Tomorrow morning would make 48 hours since initial dose.

How are you monitoring ammonia? That's what the water change is for, to rid the tank of any ammonia caused by the flukes dying. Even if you don't have ammonia I would water change to cut back on the bacterial bloom you're sure to see because of PP. PP will cause flukes to spasm off the fish and die within 24 hrs for sure. I would water change and dose again today if it were me

I am monitoring with an ammonia alert badge which doesn't show any. I just mixed a batch of water so I will wait until the morning to change as it think it is too fresh to use. I am still not 100% that it is actually a fluke on its fin though. I'm not doubting flukes on the fish because of the head shaking I am just not sure about the fin as it is almost like a clear bubble growing off of the fin. I have attached another picture and video for you to look at to see if it is clearer. It's the bottom right fin.

Thanks for all the help Dmorty. I really appreciate it! I just did a fresh water dip and there were no flukes. It did give me a chance to inspect the fin up close though. The bubble came off when I touched the fin and what it showed was some bone exposed on that fin. I am not sure what would have caused it or what I should do from here. I do have Maracyn 2 on hand but I don't know how this fish will react to it.
 
I am glad to report that I have my little girl eating. I picked up some fresh little neck clams which she immediately started pecking on with gusto. She wouldn't eat anything else I tried so I am glad this worked.

Beautiful fish!

You might want to take a razor blade and "score" the clam a few times to make it easier for her to eat bite size pieces.

I would just keep a eye on it and enrich the pellets with selcon and vitachem or Zoe to help aid in the healing. Glad that the angel doesn't have flukes
 
How does a regal usually sleep? The newly acquired fish seems alert and breathing right and laying on the side. Not sure if I should be worried as some of my other fishes sleep like that too, just wondering.
 
Laying flat on the side is not good.
Mine usually stay afloat in their cave.
My blennies, gobies and dottybacks sleep curled up in their holes. And the mandarins just sleep wherever they where when the light went off.
My only fish that sleep in a "bed" are the clownfish with their anemones.

Good news, the laying only lasted for less than half an hour (during which time I was worried and posted). Throughout the night and now in the morning, it is floating normally right side up. Lights are still off since arrival but will come on at 2pm. More updates to come.
 
I got a Nice indo regal angel last month and he his eating half shell frozen clams. I froze them when I can find them in market. Sometimes it is not possible to find them alive to freeze so last week I tried fresh cooked clams and regal ate them without problems. I just not sure if cooked clams dores have same nutritional value as fresh frozen raw ones. I am adding selcon to improve vitamins both on kinda of clams. Anyone does have any information on this ?

Since the light came on the fish has been traversing the length of the tank, 3/4 of the time near the back end (8' peninsula). Tried all manners of pellets/flakes/wafers and seemed to have eaten a little pellet. More of a fan of frozen brine shrimp, ate a good bit. Breathing is normal and generally ignores other fishes (vice versa except a particular annoying yellow tang).
