rigleautomotive's Tank Pics Thread

Yep,I hear that. Most of my DT is sps and a few lps but a few choice zoos/palys made it into the loop thru the years. The purple death hung out in my frag tank for a year or so growing from a couple polyps to a nice colony.First time cutting it I already had several tiny cuts from rearranging rock and cutting the sticks for the day. When I cut a few polyps doing the first frag some of the liquid from inside made it into one on the tiny cuts I knew I was in trouble, instantly burning and stinging similar to a bee sting. That evening and the next couple I had excruciating pain in fingers effected and hands with swelling.Live and learn here,I will be wearing double gloves next time I even come near these bad boys. They pack a potent punch for sure.

I guess the name refers to more than just the colour  I had no idea zoos and palys were so toxic. Good to know.

There is a guy who was fragging them and his dog got into the buckets he was using and the poor thing passed away.

another guy on here smashed some zoa eating nudi's with his fingers and spent some time in the hospital.

I don't mess with zoo's or paly's. Not worth it.

I really enjoy viewing your Macro shots of your corals in your tank. The richness and diversity of coloration is really breathtaking and, for me, inspiring! I can't wait till its featured as a TOTM....its just a matter of time.

Keep'em coming!

Bravo!

Jason

Thanks Jason,I appreciate the nice comment

Nice Dan!! Do I smell a frag of this coming my way?? lol

You are in Ted,you get priority since you are my frag swap slave.lol

That's a lovely piece, Dan. Same color scheme as the ORA bellina?

Thanks Peter, its more pink then purple and a thick branched acro. The Belina,at least in my tank is tan to purple thin main branch with green polyps.I believe the belina is a horida and I believe the acro pictured is
a abrontanoides.Just guessing of course.lol

Oh, if it's pink, then yes, I can see abro.

Hmm, I thought the ORA purple plasma was a horrida, not the bellina?

ah come one Dr. Rigle. I thought you were an expert on sps classifications. Dont you have the proper instruments in your basement to extract the dna from the polyps? lol

Anyway what macro lens you using to get such a good shot? r u using a photo box in the tank or zooming thru the tank?

^^^ +1 I was going to ask you the same question myself...

On that shot it was taken through the front pane with a Nikon D40 fitted with the Nikon 105 VR Macro lens

pretty sweet. I have to pic up a nice macro for my canon. with my smaller tank i could get away with a 55mm macro. i have a macro attachment that came with my wideangle adapter but its an el cheapo. dont have the extra $500 with the new baby around :/

Sure,55mm would get some nice shots.I feel your pain, spending $800 on a lens was a tough decision for me but I am glad I did now that I see how much nicer the photos have been coming out with this glass compared to the stock lens.Well hopefully you will find some extra cash the baby doesn't require to treat yourself.Congrats on the baby dude.
