Rose Anemone Died by vortex!

My Rose Anemone decided to take a walk near my ecotech mp40 overnight and got shredded. :headwally::headwally:

I did a 33% water change already and added some carbon, threw away the filter socks in the sump. Anything else I should do? Is this pretty common?

From what I've read, yep, it's pretty common. My first (and only) anemone met up with a maxi jet, which I thought was way too weak to cause any harm. I woke up to a tank that looked like it was filled with milk. Water changes and carbon saved everything else. I'm sorry for your loss.

This just happpened to me last month, and i reacted the same way except I followed with second water change 3 days later. No susequent issues resulted.

I'll do another water change 2 days later. It takes forever to fill 60 gallons with DI water! Also, how much water did you change?

Isn't there a protective mesh cover or something that can go over the MP10 so that you don't have to worry about that. Ive seen lots of people use these and have anenome's in their tank as well...

Sorry if this is off topic, but the tank in your avatar, I really like it.

OP, I had a ritteri once walk into an MP40. Tank looked like it was filled with milk as well. A lot of water changes and run carbon. SOunds like you are on the right track.

i think they have the mesh cover for the 10 i know they do for the 40.cant remember if my 10 came with one or not. i have never used mine because seems like it would be a every day cleaning job to keep flow normal with one on. seems it would cut back on flow even before it got dirty. not sure maybe someone who uses them will chime in

It happens. Nothing you can do about it unfortunately. Best thing is to isolate anemones on an island so it cannot get to the glass. They do not like to walk on sand.

Yes, the 10s do have foam covers, if you have an anemone I would make sure that you have them.

My S. Haddonis haven't moved in years (( excluding me actually moving the tanks )) and I still keep all of my 10's covered, the risk is just too high.

Next it to figure out why the anemone moved -- they don't just randomly move, some conditions wasn't being met and caused it to move.

i made the mistake in the past of turning up the flow too soon before the anemone had time to firmly establish its base and it got caught in a vortex as well. it survived (no damage to mouth) and healed fairly quickly and did well for a long time after that. unfortunately it met its demise to a faulty TDS meter reading and addition of what I thought was 0 TDS RO/DI water, but was not. what a nightmare that was to deal w/ the subsequent tank crash.

I currently have 6 MP10ES's spread through out my 3 tanks, have never once lost any livestock to them -- I do keep them covered.

a healthy anemone, should not get sucked into a MP40 to begin with ...

I have 2 MP40s in my 65G, and my BTA sits right by one MP40 ... and my LTA on sand .... been there many years, never had Issues ...
