Sailfin tang to big for a 75g?

Henry had one in a 75 gallon tank many years ago, and it outgrew that tank in under a year. He gave it to me to put in my tank (a 180 at the time). I ended up giving it to Inland Aquatics after it got too big.

Yup they are like oscars! Good water quality and food, and they grow fast.

I was sold a baby for $10 by a pertco employee because she didn't want to see the fish die and it was in rough shape with HLLE and parasites. I had mine for nearly 10 years ( tripped breaker took care of that recently ), after the first few years the growth slows, but they get BIG. I felt bad having mine in a 156 and was planning on upgrading to a 300 in the spring. Even then I think he would have been a bit big for that tank.

One thing about Zebrasoma is they don't seem to have the same stress reactions as other tangs when kept in more confined spaces. The aggression might be a little more pronounced in some species, but the pacing and sporadic behavior is as apparent like they would be in most Acanthurus. I"m not condoning the purchase of these fish for smaller tanks, but the fishes ultimate size is less of a factor than the species/genus of the tang in some cases.

Alot of the professionals well atleast the fw pros would put undersized fish in a huge tank. It gives the feeling of a bigger tank. If you don't already I would get a flame angel instead of a tang. But if you're dead set on a tang, then try a kole or bristletooth. Any other larger fish and you will end up regretting it in the end, watching a big fish swim back and foward is not very exciting

Actually, salt water pros also undersize fish to the tank because it provides a much more natural feeling.

I agree on the Kole Tang. It still fits the tank size and it is a nice and active fish. Nipping algae of the glass and rocks all day.

Will vary from individual to individual sometimes greatly. Depends on what is "acceptable" to you as far picking at corals
