SC Aquariums Owners Thread

Another question for someone with the SCA all wood stand: is it a clean cube inside like the pictures I've seen of the mdf stands, or does it have internal supports like a DIY stand? Trying to develop a model of the space I will have inside the 66 stand.

If you are looking for the all wood ping Steve at SCA. They recently tweaked the designs of the wood stands so many of us who have them even if for the same size tank you are looking for would not longer represent what he is selling. I think the only ones unchanged are those 120 gallon and up.

Here is a few quick shots of my SCA 66G. Talked with Steve and had the sump and return pump removed from the PnP deal for this tank for some money off the deal.

Shipped very fast, great customer service. Impressed with it overall. The tank is amazing. The stand is built very sturdy. And I've heard amazing thins about the SCA-302 skimmer which I'm excited to get to use once I fill up the tank this weekend.

And as far as room in the stand goes, I was about to fit a 20" X 20" trigger systems cube sump with about a foot of room if I slide the sump to one side in the stand. With no extra clearance front to back. It's butted right up to the hinge for the door.

I'll be writing up a complete review for my experience in a few weeks and I'll make sure post it in this thread.

Thanks, guys. I did get Steve to send me a picture of the new wood stand (at least for the under 48" stands). This is what they look like (this one is 24", black, but white or unfinished are other options).

OK, well these were straight when I uploaded them, not sideways. Sorry.

That one looks like my 50g MDF stand but with one door vs. two. Someone posted the new white wood one for the 50g and it doesn't look like that one.

So I woke up this morning and the power went out, ran down to the tank and noticed it had already started leaking from work I had done yesterday... terrible day.

Anyone know if the 112 Gallon 5'x18"x24" has the ability to remove the sump? It's cracked in the back and full tank above...

Sorry Ocelaris- How did the sump crack? Did I miss that post earlier? Not from the power outage....IN any event- I would get out the tubs/bins/buckets and starts taking out the rock and water from the display. Unless you can drain the sump and get it out without moving the stand away from the wall.

MY news:

Ordered a custom 150 gallon ( 60 x 24 x 24 ) from SC last week. I have a build thread up in the local club area in Pittsburgh.

Some pictures of the damage to the tank. I'm hoping to drain the tank down most of the way and put a temporary brace in while I remove the brace on the right, then replace it with a similar sized tank, maybe a 40 long.

Really disappointing as I was almost ready to get fish in it, I was going to build out the quarantine tank area today, but instead a tree knocked out power and almost a complete crash happened. And coincidentally the sump cracked and drained and warped a 10x20' section of "snap" flooring... just one of those no good, terrible, very bad days.

So question, anyone think that brace can be removed and replaced temporarily with the tank mostly drained?

How are you bracing it temporarily? Are you draining the tank?

Draining half the tank or so and I will be in and out for the swap so should only have brace of a few minutes. The stand is pretty well braced as is so I am not to worried

Cut 2 new boards the same size as the one you are removing place them in, so that they are not in the way of the sump as you pull it out.

Another way place a 2x4 behind the stand at 3 1/2 '' off the bottom of the stand get a 4x4 cut 3 1/2 same heights as the 2x4 slide the 2x4 on it end building a bridge so to speak.

I had a sump crack once, and the only way out was though the back. I drained my tank down as low as i could get it, and slowly worked the stand away from the wall.

If i were in your shoes, with a new tank and not much (or any) livestock to worry about, id just drain it down most of the way into a couple of trashcans. Do what you need to do, replace the brace and fill it back up.

So the 24g tanks are $150 right now with free shipping...

Anyone ever remove the back section to increase gallonage?

I just got the 75 gallon in, anyone have pics of their plumbing inside the overflow? Trying to get some ideas. Thanks

Thanks, that's a great idea. That's probably what I'll end up doing. A fellow reefer has a sump he's going to sell me.
