Does anyone use the ceramic media they give you with the PNP system? If so is it working for you

Yeah I threw them in the first chamber (balls and rings). A bit skeptical as to whether or not they are doing anything. Seems like another maintenance item to me. But hey, they came with the system so I assumed just use them. Open to other's thoughts as to their effectiveness.

The ceramic media sure can't hurt anything. I've used canister filters for years, once or twice a year I would dump the media in a bucket of tank water and stir the bucket with my hand to clean the ceramic's.

There are a ton of other media options -

I personally hate the bioballs and rings. They are detrious traps and cause more nitrate issues then they would solve. If you wish to use them I would put them in bags so you can easily remove and rinse regularly.

I much prefer the thicker marine pure blocks as they are thick enough for anerobic bacteria and since a simple plate design catch MUCH less debris. Like the live rock in the tank and simple turkey baster once in a while takes care of anything that gets trapped.

I tend to put them in my refugium though and allow the stuff to settle for some time as my pods breed in it and feed off of it.

I like my SCA 150, but the euro bracing being inset causing the overflow to be inset 1 " below the rim really takes away from the tank's capacity. However, on the FB group suggested a way to raise the emergency higher with elbows, which I will be doing this weekend, but its still frustrating to say the least

I think I am the one on FB who said to use 2 45s on the emergency. That said its what I do and the water level for me is at the bracing.

Just be leary if you go that route and are using a third party sump like I do that you can handle the extra water. I have to upgrade my sump and am waiting on my custom trigger sump to show up.

I'm using the Trigger Sys Emerald 34 right now and even with the power outage test, my sump level goes to about 60% full with the current set up. If I do your method, it would bring it up about 1" of water, which is slightly over 6g, so it shouldn't be an issue. I'll definitely test though, thanks for the heads up and the insight souldpatch!

I have the ruby elite 30 and I flood when I raise my 150 to the top of the weir at the bracing so be careful. That said I am going to a custom emerald 39 so you could very well be ok as I only leak about a gallon or so when I cut power.

The bracing does not keep me from having my waterline just below it, just takes some fine tuning.
I used the flex line for my drain and I did a slip coupling so I can slightly adjust that.

Just about ready for water. Final parts glued into place. I have my heater mounted by the return pump to keep my fuge free of equipment. Can it be mounted this way safely?

That looks clean and fine for heater placement, I'm sure you are aware you may need to raise that skimmer on a platform of some kind.

There's pics on here in fact mine is on here back a couple pages, but many use eggcrate or PVC or both, skimmer pump optimal height may vary some depending on maker, but pump depth about 6-8" is the norm

Awesome. Thanks! Total oversight on my part. I've heard people doing this but I apparently am taking PNP to seriously lol

I was not aware. What are people using to do that? How high?

here is my skimmer stand looks kinda nice and pretty cheap. cheaper than the egg crate. 1/4 plate glass and PCV i had around siliconed in place and a ring on the bottom on the PVC for noise works great.

I need a favor: Can someone with the SCA 66 tank and stand please post a picture from a little ways back to get a sense of scale? I'm convincing my wife that this is the size we want.

Thanks.
