SC Aquariums Owners Thread

I'm so jealous of all the bigger tanks you guys are building. Someday, I'll upgrade and I'm sure I won't be disappointed with an SC aquarium setup.

Eh, size is not the end all, it's what you make out of what you have, and your tank looks great!

That's " p-u-r-dy" ..... Great picture.

^ that's what she said!
but no really bigger is not always better...

Lol! Thanks! But I'd like a bigger tank at least a 150 so I can have a wider fish collection :)
The plan for this one is to have the bottom half a variety of zoa/paly garden with some ricordeas and top half some hardy sps pieces. Currently trying to get rid of the big monti cap. Some day I'll join the big leagues lol!

yep- that is exactly why I am getting the 5 foot x 24 x 24 150 gallon tank- I really like blue throat Triggerfish. I really want the 6 foot 180, but do not have anywhere to put that beast in my house. Finalizing the set up with Steve this week- awaiting the local acrylic builder replies for specs.

Also - for anybody that has done a coast to coast internal overflow with a external box with a Bean Animal type plumbing Please chime in on what holes you used and where you placed them on the back of the tank. I am slightly confused on where to put the holes, the sizes and number of the holes, at it appears people have done this several different ways. Complicating this is the fact that this tank is rimless with a Eurobrace vs a tank that has a 1 inch plastic rim. So,my bulkheads and holes should be able to be closer to the top of the tank because I do not have to worry about the plastic rim found on other tanks. I understand the Bean animal plumbing on the bottom of the exterior box ( 2 x one inch holes for the full siphon drain and the trickle drain and a third hole that will be 1.5 inches = emergency drain).

Thanks again- great thread.

Super - thanks Soul. Where is that thread located? Don't know why but "Search" is currently disabled? Also he has several long build threads- a cube, a 130, and a 200 wow.

Thanks Davocean

OK he is not using an external box at all and the internal box is made of glass and is totally smooth and open top -I bet the gets fish in there- will be reading more ASAP to see how that is handled. He just plumbs thru the wall into "T's" on the other side of the wall then down a few feet to the sumps in the garage. Sweet setup!!

Mine will have to be different somewhat. I will be going down to basement on the other side of the house- I am now concerned that I will be running pipes 12 feet nearly horizontally between the ceiling of the basement and the floor of the main floor, before I am able to drop down another 4 feet to table levels in the basement where my sump will be.

Hmmm.... more research /reading necessary - it looks like he drilled 3 holes in the back of the tank. I do not find any exact measurements as to the placement or size of the holes yet -I well keep reading.

Nice! Are those MP10s? What setting and power do you have it set to?

Don't be. I'm going from a 120 to a 50. My 55 and 20 were much nicer from a coral standpoint.

I think it all depends on what you want. I had an 8' 240 LOVED it some day I want a 10' or 16' tank for a butterfly and tang tank.
until then my 3' 90 will do the trick.

then there FB page then said a new size was available a 135 =36x36x24...thanks a nice tank :D

My tank will be delivered today and I got some zinnser primer and some behr exterior paint. Think that would do? I really considered the appliance paint but it kinda scared me on how it would stick since it's made for metal surfaces.

it sticks fine. It is made for all surfaces or over existing paint so it is fine. I would rather go with it then a typical exterior paint as it hardens more.

Your Zinser and Behr will be perfectly fine, but that Zinser primer has a really strong odor, be aware of that.

Did your plumbing come like that? Also, where'd you get the slim fit containers? Nice setup by the way [emoji106]
Thank you.

No, I bought schedule 80 pipe and fittings from BRS ahead of time and setup up my plumbing. I am T-ing off the return for a carbon/GFO reactor.

BRS sells those containers under their dosing category.
