SC Aquariums Owners Thread

**** update****

My Custom 150 has cleared customs - awaiting email form Steve on shipping dates, etc.

YEAH!!!

Hello!!

Hello!!

I am another soon-to-be SC Aquarium owner. Started with a 55gal two years ago but now I have the 150PNP on order and cannot wait. The tank is standard but I wanted a white all wood (not MDF) cabinet which Steve is building for me. I have really enjoyed reading this thread and perusing some of the build threads.

Couple of questions...

1. For those with the 150 do you think the return pump is fine to get started (a couple months) or would you guys totally remove it right from the get go?

2. Is the sump too big for the space? Would it be strange to ask Steve to go with the sump for the 120gal? Would you go a step further (I know you would Soulpatch) and get a custom sump?

3. After reading the discussion of the herbie from the gmacreef website (invaluable by the way) I would like to keep my return free of splitting off to a manifold, but still want a manifold. Would having a second pump completely separate from the drain/return to circulate sump water to media be completely ridiculous or doable?

Thanks in advance!!

I do this exact same thing, only because I had a spare pump, and didn't want to T off my main return.

If the pump that comes with the 150 is similar to the pump in the 80G PNP system it will be fine for a few months. My only concern with it was the size(its HUGE!), the heat it generates, and the sound(its quite loud).

Thanks Cowboy.

Bracka- loading pics on Reef Central can be irritating if you don't know how. Use photo-bucket to "host" your pics , then copy the HTML and paste it on your post.

Great information, thank you!!

Anyone else have a comment on this question...

Happy Saturday Reefing, we are heading to a wedding this afternoon, so the fishes are on their own for the day...

I think most of us come to a point where we end up modifying to suit our own personal needs, so for me that meant just making my own sump, wanted as big of a fuge as I could get to provide pods for my mandarins and anthia.

Their sumps and the return pumps are fine for a while, but most likely you will want to upgrade those items down the road.

Couple more questions

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I went ahead and requested the sump from the 120 gallon for my 150 PNP. I will likely upgrade in the future (maybe) and from what I am looking at it will be more in line with this size anyway. Plus I will have more room for ATO, reactors and dosing.

Now to my questions:

1. If you are running the SCA sump, how do you have the chambers set up and what media are you using? I have looked at a couple of the build threads, but it appears many use custom sumps so it is difficult to tell how I might use the sca sump (also I am coming from a canister and have never used a sump before...

2. What is the usual procedure for delivery and what does the "liftgate"
service entail? I can either have a large pallet pulley or a forklift available depending on need...

Thanks again, I will post some pics as soon as I get the tank up and running.

If you have a forklift then lift gate is not needed. THey will pull the pallet to the back of the truck and you can lift off with the forklift. For those of us getting home dlievery or without access to a forklift the liftgate option allows the driver to use a pallet jack and pull onto a gate which lowers it to the ground so they can pull it into your driveway or such.

I am one with a custom sump so cant help you too much on the set up of the PNP ones. Though typical sumps have socks or some sort of mechanical at first chamber, skimmer and/or calc reactor in second, fuge in third if there is one, and finally return pump.

Just got my tracking number and my tank /stand/canopy will be here on Friday. AHHHHH.... I am NOT ready.

Can I tell the driver I need the "lift gate service" when they get here? I don't think I put that in the original order to Steve.

No you need to call freight company and ensure they send truck with it and pay the difference

Acer,

What lighting are you planning for that bad boy?
Also what type of reef will that be?
