Sea and reef: adding to my wish list

These guys up north in my home state are going to ruin me. I started this hobby with the sole idea of a simple zoa and ric garden, then got the Acro bug. Now these beautiful clowns are going to break my bank for sure.
First I need one or two of these

Then also of course the newly announced

Aaaahhhhh

Those Phantoms almost seem like they have been Photoshop (I know that they are not). The white and black paterns are soooooo neat.

What do yo mean the phantoms look a little off? I will say, most of their clowns look way better than ORA clowns from what I have seen in local stores. As far as body form goes they seem to not have the bulldog jaws and hump backs that many lower grade ORA clowns have. Time will tell though if they start getting body deformities. the Phantoms do look cool though. Makes me think of holstein milk cows...LOL

Wow, some one else that though cow when they saw these. I showed the pic to a friend and he said the same thing, and that's all I can see now too.

Are you sure you're not talking about SA clowns? I've seen quite a few (most unfortunately) SA clowns with the deformities that you describe, but not ORA clowns.

I've seen plenty of SA clowns, I'm talking about lower grade ORA clowns. Ocellaris and percila clowns especially. During my time working at a local fish store here in Maine, I saw bunches of different clowns come in with huge underbites (bulldog jaw), humped backs and deformed fins. I really hate seeing deformities so often. Not to say they don't have some incredible clownfish because they do. It just seems like you have to pay almost $300 to get anything decent from ORA in my opinion. From what I've seen at some other LFS's, the Sea and Reef clowns being bread here in ME all seem to still have a pretty normal body and head shape compared to many SA and ORA clowns. I'm all for buying captive bread fish but very few compare to anything wild in my opinion. It only takes so many times of inbreeding and cross breeding before you end up with screwed up looking fish. I guess I'm just glad were not seeing to many three eyed fish of anything like that yet.

I've also seen some of the ORA brown saddle, cinnamon clowns, tomato and pink skunk clowns all come in with some pretty bad underbites. Most of the maroon clowns I've seen have had really short first dorsal fins as well. But hey, major credit to all the major breeders for even being able to breed them in the first place.

I too have seen many deformed clowns come through my store (Petco), from all sorts of vendors. We deal with a lot of ORA clowns, and I'll get in not only the underbite, but ones that look like they have puffed cheeks or swollen gills but completely healthy otherwise. But I also currently have a set of onyx percula at the store with the swollen jaws/gills from SA. My store doesn't currently have sea and reef as a vendor for some reason. But the fact is they are still providing healthy captive bred clowns in large numbers. I personaly prefer the color of SA ocellaris clowns, a deeper vibrant orange vs Ora which are a lighter yellow orange.

And there is really no reason for them to produce yellow/orange clowns. It is all about providing a quality diet.

No idea yet, reef builders just put an article out saying some have been released for sale already, but no mention to price or where. I'm going to have to make inquires

I just got in touch with Greg at cultivatedreef.com and he is going to be ordering me some. They are priced very reasonalbly for a designer clown. Just let him know through his website or sales@cultivatedreef.com and he will make it happen! The clowns are $99 for small (1 1/4"), $104 for medium (1 1/2") and $110 for large (1 3/4").

Not a fan of the Wyomings, but love the Phantoms.
Same here, those Phantoms are some of the cooler designers I've seen.
