Shallow reef tank Club

NICE!!!:bounce2::fish1:

how long have you had the achilles? how is he taking to the shallow reef?
what are the dimensions of your tank again?

thanks a lot!

i've had the achilles now for about 1 year i think. he's started to lose a little weight after downsizing, but i think i got it handled now. there's not enough rock like he had to graze on before. he took fine to it, no issues. i do think he wishes there was more rock though, i get that feeling. my chevron on the other hand is doing very well still.

the dims are 48x30x16. perfect dimensions imo. enough depth to aquascape nicely and not too tall for look down and one tek t5 works perfectly over it.

thanks, I would love to have an achilles as my only tang. maybe after i add more flow.

whats your flow situation. I see 2 nanostreams in there, are they modded? Any more that i cant see?

Mines covered with a fish drag net I found at K-Mart, mine goes over the lights so no light loss either. I still lost a bar goby due to leaving it open while doing some maintenance and walking out for like 15 minutes. Landed on my office chair and found him hours later :sad2: Down to 2 now.

Sorry about that.I think fish are smarter than we give them credit for. I guess
some fish don like to be trapped in a glass aquarium so the first chance they get they jump:bounce3:
I lost my 7in hippo 3 months back to a closed top (canopy) I found him days later on top of the glass cover over the overflow, still trying to figure how, cause the tank is also covered...go figure

He or she is a good 5 or 6 inches atm. Found at petco for twenty bucks and taken as a mercy case...turned out all good as it put wieght on quickly. Shares the tank with a clown, tomni and a naso.

I love my tank measurements. Shallow and wide if you can is definitely the way to go imo. Nice not having to run crazy lighting, can grow acro's right on the sandbed if I want. There are several things I wish I would have done a bit different though and maybe way down the road I will.

Had a question for the rimless club. I am thinking of doing a 72"x30"x18" rimless. The tank builder suggested that 1/2 glass would be fine with no eurobracing. I just wanted to see if anyone has a 6' rimless tank with no eurobrace in 1/2" glass and if there are any issues with it..

thanks

I can finally join the club. Here's mine. 60x30x20 LeeMar. It's a 3 sided starphire, Euro braced, with a corner overflow.

Here's what it looks like now. Still a work in progress

yep, just the two nano's plus the return loc-line adds quite a bit of flow two.

i have a third nanostream that I want to add but trying to figure out where without blowing sand or corals all over.

didn't know you could mod these?

Hi guys just popping in to say i am inspired by all these shallow tanks. I have decided to go with the same dimensions as 143gadgets. I will be joining this club very soon

hey... quick question... how high is your lights from the top of the tank? i have a 12" high tank w/ 5 54w t5 bulbs 6"s above the tank... the acros are loving it... but my chalices are startign to bleach. Some of the zoas too. I'm guessing its too much light. :)

these shallow tanks all look amazing.. hrmmm my next tank is now being rethought again :spin1: every single time i think i know what i want.

I am so glad I found this thread... I have had this vision for a while and didnt know what to call it... hopefully I am picking up my "Shallow Reef" tomorrow... I will post up some pics if I get it... until then nice tanks... everyone...
