Shallow reef tank Club

I found this thread while researching my shallow reef cube (yes, I know it isn't really a cube), a 4'X4'X20" inwall build.
I love the square surface (16 sq. ft!) and shallow depth (for future expansion away from MH and into LED's)
Maybe I posted a little too soon as the access panel or removable background aren't in place but am excited about this tank. Most stuff was moved from a 6 yr. "traditional" 150 tank but excess corals were traded for new frags so there's a mix of small and large stuff

Awesome Yardboy! Love that big green slimmer. Nice aquascape as well the center path will be alive with fish as you fill it.

What are you plans for fish and what is in there already? I am planning on having a glass tank built to replace my acrylic 48x27x18 I'm going to keep my current footprint so that I can reuse my stand. I wish I could go bigger.

Thanks GSM! That green slimer has been "in the family" for a long time.
Same as the fish. Yellow-tailed damsel, my original tank cycling fish from 2002.
Yellow Tang, from when Marine Depot still sold fish in 2002 also. A Doctorfish caught at the jetties near my house, 2006. A pair of pink skunks, from 2008, a pair of Ocellaris clowns from 2009. A tiger pistol shrimp from 2005 with his second yellow watchman goby, 2007. A spanish hogfish from last year caught in the Keys. And lastly, a diamond watchman goby from 2009 also. An eclectic collection, but when they survive, I keep them.
I may get a sailfin blenny pair later, but not sure, or maybe a few trimma gobies. An order has shipped for some symbiotic shrimp (anemone, pistol pair, and snapping shrimp) to be hosted by a curleycue aneomone, the anemone with the most symbionts in the Caribbean.
The clowns are in BTA's.

For the shape, I've had narrow tanks, originally a 70, then a 150, but I built a little 20 cube for a contest and fell in love with the shape. If you have the right space for it (a major caveat) a cube is great, but they won't fit just anywhere!

Where are some good places to buy shallow cube tanks? I have looked online for new/used and cannot seem to find much! I would like to get one around the 24x24x16 or 30x30x16 range.

Thanks!

I admire that kind of minimalist tanks!!
I'm making a shallow reef tank of 55x55x19.
I hope to get something like yours
Could you upload more images, please?
Greetings!!!

Hello Yardboy!!!!
Although I love the minimalist style, You had achieved an exquisite depth effect, with the central canyon.
Beautiful Reef!!!
Congratulations!

Thanks WalterRuben!
While a cube doesn't work everywhere, it seemed to lend it self exceptionally well to an inwall setup and it's almost like I have two tanks! The "working side" where we all know it's fun to "simply mess about in tanks" to the viewing side where I sit with loved ones and just look!

Still, I can gain so much inspiration from others tanks here. Mastermind9 has a work of art d michelo takes minimal and shallow to new heights!!
This is my favorite thread!!!

Hello Yardboy!!!
Is it a bali green slimer acropora at right of your tank?
I really like the staghorn coral type, but in my country is not available and the ones that are in existence here are three times more expensive than in USA; a shame: (
I hope someday to have a coral as nice as yours.
Greetings!!!

Yes that is what it is. It's name is such a disservice to it's qualities as a coral. One of my favorites, I've had the cultivar for many years.
Good luck with your tank. If I can do it, anyone can! Perserverance is my secret.

Hello Yardboy!!!!
One of the gorgonian in the background, is non photosynthetic?
If it is, What degree of difficulty did you have in keeping NPS gorgonians?
What is your feeding routine?
I would like to start the keeping of NPS
Greetings!!!!

Walter, I've only tried NPS corals a few times, with no long term success. Since there are many photosynthetic gorgonians, I stick with them. The gorgonian I think you are referring to is the purple ribbon (Pterogorgia anceps) which in my specimen does have white polyps but is photosynthetic. I have had good luck with it, fragging it and growing out for others. They are very common in the Caribbean and often collected in the Florida Keys.

Hi
There are some really stunning shallow tanks especially the 24 by 24s. I can finally join the group, it is a 24 x 16 x 13.

First time using acrylic rod.
