Shallow reef tank Club

Leonardo, I just love your tank dimensions!! Veeeery exciting, indeed, I can't wait to see how it looks like. Certainly amazing, considering the Formosa forest, one of the most original and "dramatic" tank I saw over the forums!

Great!

Friskaburger, kactusficus; Thanks :) I'll keep you guys updated when I start a thread!

GSMguy; The bracing is PVC and for protection only. When the tank get's its final place they will be removed and 5 panes of glass is all you see! The baffle on the left is a front to back overflow with 4 holes drilled.

Leonardo it sounds great, 12 inches that IS shallow :), when you are near the tank you will feel like you are at the ocean near a lagoon because of all that surface area, i love all the ripples that develop.

your idea to do lots of Tables will definitely be great, and i can not wait to see what you come up with i watched your forest grow over about 2 years and you never failed to impress me.

Thanks Nick, I'm also looking forward to the large surface area, together with the wavebox and Lumenarcs... Can't wait!

wow coseal, that looks great. close to the dimensions i just ordered! Could I bother you for specs on that stand? I"m really interested, maybe more pictures of it too?? I'm getting ready to build a stand for mine, and that looks like one i'd like to emulate. Did you buy it or build it?

i built it.. its basically a plywood box with some sides attached and doors very simple and basic! heres an inside shot during construction...

coseal - man that's exactly what I was planning on doing!! The window for the AC Jr. is genius, i'm sad that I wasn't the first to think of doing that though! haha here I thought i was revolutionary. Great job on that! My old tank has this beautiful oak stand my dad and I built, but this time around I'm going to just do something fairly basic. Do you have any issues with the hinges rusting over? My old hinges got a little rusty.

im really loving these shallow tanks. im looking into getting one to replace my 28" tall, but id like it braceless.
so..
whats the tallest , braceless you can have in 10mm glass, 36"long?
im hoping 20" tall would be ok.
thanks
ben

Yeah I was so disappointed when they started to rust. if I figure out a solution or maybe some stainless steel versions, I'll let you know

Go to a Quality wood crafting store and you find you stainless Euro style hinges in many dif styles ........

Sean

Thanks, I'm trying to remember if the ones I used were in fact stainless or not. My father picked them up for me when he was out and I"m pretty sure we got them from a nice cabinetry store since that's sorta his thing. I just am not sure if we opted for the stainless, you can guarantee that if they have them that I'll go for it this time!

Thanks for the link to A.G.E. by the way IridescentLily, I've always wondered who the hell they were, since so many people on RC seem to get setups from them. Are they pretty affordable? I'm curious how much it would have cost for them to make the tank I just ordered. Hope they weren't alot cheaper :(

xtm do you have a build thread for your tank, Im getting a tank with the same dimmentions in a few months, and I love your tank

coseal... I love that stand... you should post it in the modern reef thread. one of the best, cleanest stand designs I have seen! What did you use to finish the inside and outside?

these tanks that are shallow look down tanks should get a name... like "tabletop aquarium" or something "tabletop lagoon aquarium".
