rossco do you have any supplemental lighting on the de? when you say darken up is that good or bad? QUOTE]

I am not using any supplemental lighting with the 150. Darkening was a nice way of saying they brown out a bit. I think the corals look much better in the display than the frag tank (which is in the area of my sump that is supposed to be a refugium) They still encrust the plugs and grow well, but the color doesn't stay. They look just like the display corals when I put them in. It could be the intensity vs the spectrum as I have Lumenarcs and 250's in the display and just a PFO pendant with the 150 over the frags, but the change is a long term change over a few weeks. Could also be flow related as I just have the overflow/return flow in that area.

@ros, head over to advanced aquarist, they have a study that indicates intesity not spectrum is more of a factor when it comes to growth.

OK, it seems my post was deleted in the recent RC upgrade, so I will post again. I presently use 3 400W XMs (10K,20K,10K) over my 125. I need new bulbs. So, after reading this thread, I have decided to go with 3 400W Radiums.

With my XMs, I am using standard M59 ballasts which I wired myself and have them in a fan cooled ballast box. They have been going strong for 11+ years now.My plan is to remove the M59s and buy M135 ballast kits and wire them myself, instead of buying 3 new electronic ballasts. They will simply replace the M59s in my ballast box. Sound like a plan?

I have also ordered 3 Lumenmax Elites since I am going to replace my 12 year old reflectors as well. They will be mounted to a new aluminum frame that I will suspend over the tank.

I am also thinking of adding 2 160W VHO actinics powered by an Icecap 660 for dawn/dusk. These will not be running when the halides are on. They will turn off 30 minutes after the halides come on, and turn on 30 minutes before the halides go off. I think this will greatly improve lamo life. ny thoughts on these ideas?

Here are some pictures from today. 2x400w Radium's

Tank looks good Todd. I like the carpets as well the SPS :p

Thank you my good sir. ;)

I had to move one of my tabling millis to my 75, was shading the blue Haddoni. And I am thinking of moving the green Haddoni to my cube, in hopes of getting the black back in my SI Percs. And then I have to think about doing some trimming on that green cap, taking up a lot of room -- darn weed. ;)

The only time that they move is if I move a powerhead, otherwise never. They seem to be very sensitive to changes in flow/too much flow.

How much growth will I sacrifice going from ReefLux 12k's to Radium 20's? I really want to go to Radium bulbs so I do not have to add supplemental lighting, but do not want to give up growth.

Also, can a run Radium bulbs successfully on standard (non-dimmable) CoralVue 250w ballasts? Or do I have to overdrive the bulbs with dimmable ballast to get all the blue I am looking for?

Any help and/or insight would be greatly appreciated.....
