Show me your 20k Radium tanks?

4 - 250 watt Radiums on M80 Ballast along with 10 LED panels.

simply amazing

Surprisingly this fixture is way cooler then the 150w fixture that I used to have that had a big 120mm fan on it. The one I currently have is slightly warm to the touch. Barely noticeable:)

Nice work TDB!.

What benefits did the 250w radium bring over the led panels alone?

What is your current light schedule?

What is your filtration?

Thanks

Mo

Thanks!
The benefits seem to be from a color standpoint. I have my panels staggered in a way that they overlap so hard to tell. I have a milli that seems to be getting half mH and the other LED. The LED side is growing better but looks like it has less zooxanthellae and I can see growth tips the other side is much slower but the color looks much better and the coral in general seems healthier. Ill try to snap a pic.

The light schedule is 12 hours for LED blues at 50% and whites 10%.
MH for 5 hours.

For filtration, I use a SRO5000 skimmer on dry skim and run 500ML bio-pellets in a recirculating reactor. I use a mesh filter sock. I change about 20% of water every two weeks. I have about 400 lbs live rock in the system and my tangs take care of the hair algae. when the tank is too clean I dose Nitrate, AA, and carbon vinegar.

Do you ramp up/down the led's or run 50/10 most of the 12 hours?.

How much vinegar do you dose?.

Do you run carbon full time ?

No ramp up just on off. The whites are only on when the Mh are on.

40 mL of Vinegar mixed with 20ML of AA(Aquavrito Fuel) and 1/8tsp sodium nitrate. Only when Nitrates read less than 5. When they get high like they are now at 10 I don't dose anything.

Yes Run carbon passively 1 cup of Rox in filter bag hanging off of skimmer output.

bump this thread up....

bump this thread up....

Seems to be a lot of chatter about MH and Radium bulbs lately so I will bump this thread with my new tank. Tank is 8x3x2 with 3 x Hamilton Cozumel pendants, 20k radiums run on galaxy ballast in the hqi setting. I also have 8 x 54w t5's for supplement but they are not on in this picture.

Are you running 400 or 250 watt radiums?

Don

right now 250's. In the future I will either add a 4th pendant with a 250w bulb or switch to 400w bulbs.

Gotcha. I run 2 400 radiums over my 5x3x2 and I love it. I have a Retro 4 - 54w T5 setup coming tonight I am going to get wired and mounted on my light frame. It will basically be the same setup as I had on my 60 cube but doubled :)

Nice!!! I have the Retro 8 kit and it is great! I need to re-wire my reflectors as as I didnt lay it out properly when I wired them. Instead of controlling rows of bulbs I control left/right side so I cant run just actinics if I want to. I will work on that on friday.

I thought you were going with Radions?

I had gone Radions. But there are little subtleties about them which I didnt quite like. And I miss the shimmer of halides and I want to see what Radiums can do for my current setup. Maybe I will eventually switch and be content with T5/LED hybrid.

Recently ordered a 40x30x20(tall) tank. :bounce3:
I think I will start with a single 24" Giesemann Spectra (1x 250W Radium / 4x 24w T5) and if my minimalistic plans fail I can rotate the fxture 90 degrees and add one more Spectra for max coverage.

Not sure what T5 bulbs to go with though. I have heard that the blue+ has a spectrum quite close to that of the radium and it would be ideal to use something else. Does that make sense?

I am hoping the overall light from the T5s will slightly increase the blue look compared to only the radium. Maybe 2x coral+ and 2x actinic?
