Showing off my new Magnifica

I'm kinda getting obsessed with these anemones... Specifically Magnificas as of late. Anyway I traded out one for a new one and wanted to share. First is the one I kept. I really like his green base and tentacles with a strong contrast to the purple of the oral disc.

Originally I had a beatiful purple one to the right, but it was ALL purple, and the contrast of the one above drew me in. Finally I broke down and began hunting for a red one. Well, I found one, but had my first ever heart-breaking "death of a new Mag". Shortly after I got this new guy. Pink's not normally my color, but it's a pretty cool nem if I do say so myself. P.S. a huge thank you to Salty Underground for helping me track down some awesome Magnificas that you don't see every day.

Good looking Mag! I'll be interested to see if the new one changes coloration at all.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

ct_vol, I will have to squeeze in behind my tank and get some updated photos of the side where the light hits it. It has been with me for one month, and I think the color has shifted away from purple towards pink (thank goodness). I don't think it's lost much of it's intensity yet, but it's hard to tell since most of the time I view it from an angle where it's backlit. Now if only it would turn more orange - get me some shade of fire engine or corvette red going on!

This is what it looks like with my phone camera's flash. Oh to dream! I might have to build a DIY using all cell phone LEDs. :p

How far is Salty Underground from O'Fallon? My district office is down there and I'm usually there about every other week. Worth the drive?

Cell phone flash LEDs is a new one. The Mag would probably look awesome while everything else looked like crap. ;)

It's down in the Crestwood area, but it's an online store, not physically open to the public. I know the owner from a local club, and she was kind enough to watch out on her distributor lists for me. She does offer local pickup if you order off the site I believe, but I wouldn't just go showing up next time you're out here. :p

So... Species tank?

They all look great. I never see green based ones, except in pics. A rare color morph in the trade, I'd say.

Ya know, I'm glad you said that. I haven't seen them either, but I thought maybe it was just my personal experience. The rarity of the green base was one of the major reasons I decided to make room for it originally. Now I just need someone to track down a red based one. And I'd remodel my whole tank to fit one with a blue base! But that's not exactly likely, from what I can tell.

What are you using for lighting?

I am using Cree LED fixtures with 90 degree lenses. In the area for the Mags I have 3 fixtures, each 24x3watts with 60/40 blue/white. My living room has bad ventilation, so MH would cook this tank in the summer.

I love the rock the one on the right is on. Is it one rock or did you make it like that.

nice aquascaping! looks awesome! what did you use (puddy)?

Thanks guys! The rockpile in the middle is a genuine rockpile. Just a pretty one. The right side by the overflow (as well as a matching left side not pictured) is DIY using foam, eggcrate, and PVC rods. If you want to know more you can check out my old build thread and see them in the making. It was a lot of fun really, but in retrospect I should've used more rock and less foam.
