Yeah they're not cheap at all but they were $10 off during BF sale! I think I have room in my sump for one more so that should be plenty of bio filtration!
 
6x of 175G of Red Sea Regular salt buckets should arrive later today! ATI dimmable fixture and reefbrite LEDs arrive tomorrow! Can't wait! :)

Be very careful with this salt. Make sure prior to using you have rolled the bucket on the ground (a lot) to remix the salt. An LFS, myself and another person lost a bunch of acros using Red Sea coral pro in December. Follow their directions word for word.

Wow thanks for the input! I'm actually using the regular salt, not the pro but I'll make sure to do that.

What was the issu? High all? I usually test before doing a water change.

Definitely test the water. Mag was beyond 2000 and stupidly I didn't test the water. In fact when I had the water tested (after killing tons of coral) my mag went from 1200 to over 2000 (Red Sea test kit never budged from initial color). Also Alk went from 7.5 to over 13. This tested after a few corals completely bleached over night and then after a couple more water changes.

When I switched to reef crystals (2 30 gal water changes later) I started seeing the die off slow down. It took 4 months before my Miami Orchid went from white to brown to normal colors.

I now test every water change but to be honest I don't do many water changes anymore because of that issue.
 
Had same happen to me with Reef Crystals, although I am not sure what exactly was wrong, I did not test the water itself. Tank parameters seemed fine except for Iodine being higher than red sea test kit scale.

Always noticed that corals never liked water changes before and would retract their polyp extension after 50g water change for a few days. But about 80g water change killed a few SPS - bleached over night, then some RTN, rest recovered over next few weeks. Will now cut it down to 25g to avoid any issues in the future.
 
This is why I prefer small, weekly water changes. I'll be doing 10 gallon each week and a 25g at the end of each month. I also like to adust the mag level of fresh saltwater

At the time I was doing 30 gal a week on my 210. I thought that was pretty small. I think I just got a bad batch but it was my fault for not testing the water.

Why do you adjust mag level of freshwater?

I've read that it's better to adjust magnesium levels in freshly mixed saltwater before doing a water change. But I'm going to mess around with this idea before adding corals in. I used RC in the past and my mag tests were always around 1100. I might not have to do that with Red Sea. I'll use Kent M and keep the mag around 1300.
 
We've got a few more branches to add to the main structure but this is the aquascape that we came up with! And we're very happy with how it turned out! It's exactly what we've imagined.. Lots of room for corals and swimming space for our fish!

ATI lights are up: Blue plus, actinic, coral plus, blue plus, purple plus, and blue plus. Right now, only the actinic and purple+ are on. Reefbrite LEDs will be added later today!

Final aquascape!

Still a little cloudy because I just added a bottle of Bio-Spira and we're still adding freshwater due to high SG.

Looks pretty cool. I was picturing those "horns" to be pointed up and sitting on some small legs hehe :) But I guess that would not leave my room above for corals to grow.
