So it begins the 125 reef build

Not the returns... I meant to say the ball-valves that are on the drain lines coming down from the overflows...

Those are gate valves. The dursos do make some noise at full power from the vectra and full open on the gates so if i close them off and create a full siphon they are silent. Now i do have 1 ball valve that drops into the second chamber of the sump. I wanted to drop some dirty water after the skimmer for the chaeto. If that doesn't work i can use it to run a chaeto reactor off tje return side

AHH... That is what I thought you were doing... Everything I've read you're not supposed to full-siphon a single drain line without having a backup...

Correct me if I'm wrong robert, but the drains aren't full siphons. They are durso drains with holes drilled at the top of each pipe.

A little back pressure on the durso can restrict the gurgle and I believe that is what robert is accomplishing with these gates.

Happy memorial day everyone made some progress on the tank over the weekend i added 8 chromis on Thursday and 6 are still with us i made side panels to hold my apex and all the control heads ran all the wiring and setup the apex and finally added some tester corals

Hey everyone quick update the tank is moving along nicely i have added my 2 clowns to the tank and a tomini tang. The fish are all fat and healthy went to Hayward and picked up 2 new additions for the tank pictures later once they settle into q.t. but they both are eating already

So here is a quick update. I now have 10 fish in the tank all fat and happy. I ran into an issue i was testing alk and it stayed at 8.7 for a week no drop. I lost 3 sps which i was not thrilled about did some testing and found 0 nitrate and 0 ppb phosphate. My cheato ball almost filled the middle of my sump. I am up to 3 cubes of food a day and adding a half a sheet of nori. I ditched tje cheato ball for Now and i will be adding reef fuel and brightwell restore to help with coral food ill try and update in a week or so with results

Have you thought about dropping your alkalinity too? Since ur basically a ULNS, are coral tips burning first then bleaching? Or is it just RTN

They just rtnd but i have up the nutrients going into the tank and ill test again saturday and see if it dropped

I would also try a different set of test kits. 3 cubes is a fair amount for such a young tank with only ten fish. On top of that if your cheato is growing that rapid you most likely have nutrients in the water. Most tanks that are truly at undetectable levels usually struggle with macro algae.

so after removing the cheato and dosing the restore and the fuel my tank has found its stride my alk is back down to 7.5 kdh cal is a little low at 390 average between 2 test kit salifert and elos. bringing it up slowly also mag is 1230 and I am also working on bringing that into the 1300s. the biggest thing I have noticed since cheato removed is the coraline algae is starting to go crazy on the back wall, polyp extension is way better and the zoas are growing babies like crazy.

That's good to hear. What were your nutrients like before and after? Possible your chaeto was just starving out your corals and they needed a little more nutrients in the water?

Nitrate 0 ppm and phos where at 0 ppb. I pulled cheato and turn skimmer off for a week before i started qusing fuel and restore. Nitrates were at 5ppm and phos at 5ppb. Turned skimmer back on started using fuel and restore numbers now are back to 0ppm nitrate and 0ppb phos but i turn the skimmer off for 20 mintues a day and dose either fuel or restore
