Sonicboom's 180 build in Tampa

So what started off as a simple adjustment of one rock turned into completely redoing the left side of my tanks scaping. The tang loves it since she can now fit her huge self between the rocks..lol

So I just did my morning head count and noticed what I thought was another shrimp molt. unfortunately it looks like my shrimp that molted yesterday may have gotten killed or died of old age. Everything and everyone else is fine including another cleaner shrimp and coral banded shrimp and blue linkia.

It's a wp 40 and aside from a slight hum when it ramps up to 100% it's great. It reaches a little more than half way in the 180 with a wide flow. And on the opposite end there are two tunze 6055's alternating against it.

I hope two wp40s isn't too much...I'll know soon...

my 22.00 chiller

my 22.00 chiller

So I acquired a small fridge which had stopped cooling with the intention to take a look at it and see if I could get it working. I planned to use it to store the additives and fish food and whatever else was in the main fridge my wife did not approve of. Anyway I had a feeling it was the starter relay so I ordered a new one for 21.99. Popped it on as soon as it arrived and low and behold she cranked right up and within 15 min was down to 50 degrees. I wanted to leave it running overnight so I put my 5 gallon top off container in it to see if it could cool it down. With in a few hours it was down to 46 degrees measured with a blue point laser thermometer. Then I got the idea to eliminate the middle man and place the top off container in it instead of the one I use to fill it.

I drilled a 1/4 inch hole for the tubing and ran it through an existing hole in the wall for coaxial cable. Will post results if I can bring tank temp down to 77 from 80 and or anything close to that.

I though it was one of those college re frigs, but that has a nice glass door. It would be great to dual task it for cooling too.

Hmmm...I have my sons old college refrig in my basement too...

Lol, yeah this one is pretty nice, I actually bought it about 8 years ago and used it for a year, then it went into storage until I gave it to my wife's grandparents. Then it died and they gave it back. Now it's resurrected and may as well be put back on service. Heck if it even helps maintain Temps below 80 I will call it a success. Just make sure you drill the side only...lol

Compressor is kicking on every 15 min for 2 min. 5 gallons of water went in at 78 degrees and is at 67 1 hr later.

So you are recirculating the water back and forth or just as cool top off? It would be cool to put a loop in your sump and then circulate it back and forth.

no circulation just to cool the top off water, I think if I re circulate the water the compressor will not stop running. I'm trying to go as simple as possible.

Update, it's been almost 24 hrs and the water coming out of the float valve is at 61.5 degrees with fridge on 1 1/2 on thermostat.

Sump at 74.5 before the return pump

And tank at 79. This is with fan no longer blowing over sump.

Just set fridge to 3 to see if numbers change. I think the trickle at which it comes in is the deciding factor.

Even if you get a one degree drop, its all good. I guess to know for sure you need the ambient air to remain steady to compare. How much top off water do you generally use each day?

Already you cut the fan, so that a plus too...
