None, I'll think for abit and come up with something. Lol

Ill be hear if you need me. ;)

Same goes for everyone else. I have cleared out my PM box and am ready for more! :smokin:

sunnyx, i saw on another thread that you acclimate your corals and i think you said you quarrenteen and dip your corals. I typically only buy from a lfs that has quite alot of sps in their tanks and i can't imagine they would put corals that are not healthy in there due to risk of loosing all their live stock. i really do not buy from other hobbiest unless i know their tanks really well and i definitely do do frag swaps. what are you thoughts on that? if you do dip, what do you use and what are your steps? BTW i got a call form my tank builder and he says i should have my new tank by june 26th!!! Unfortunately i will be taking the wife and kids on a 3 day caribbean cruise then and unable to do the tank until i come back. At least i will be looking forward to coming back home :D I will also be taking the wife and kids to San Fran, LA, then off to Hawaii in late July for 2 weeks so I have a relatively small window to start up the tank! I can't wait to start the tank!

thanks.

Sonny, Is it correct to increase bacteria dosage to eliminate the green algae film on the glass and brown dino deposits that sometimes accumulate on the sand?

Wow, thats alot of vacation time! Congrats on the tank and I hope that you have it up soon.

I normally dip mine in Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure. I place the coral in an empty salt bucket that is filled half way along with a small maxijet. I then add the TMPCC and let it sit for around 30 minutes. I blast off the frag to make sure nothing is attached and then place it in the tank.

My dip isnt really all that detailed because I usually get my corals from only two or three local reefers. They all have clean systems and I know what I am getting.

Dino's and green film algae are two totally different things. ;) Dino's are much harder to get rid of while green film algae is not much of an issue.

With added bacteria you should see a decrease in film algae and all other algae as well. In genereal, your water will be much clearer and cleaner.

I had my good friend over yesterday and him and his wife remarked that it looked as if there was no water in the tank. Sometimes it looks as if my fish are floating in mid air! :D He may be adding bacteria soon. ;)

As for getting rid of Dino's, check out my article here: http://www.rimlessreef.com/1/post/2009/04/dinoflagellates-and-the-treament-of.html

Sonny.

yeah, i do get ALOT of vacation! but in my industry I NEED IT! I already took the wife to Barcelona Spain this year for 10 day for valentines day and still have like 7 vacation and 2 floating holidays left. This is why i got away with ordering a new tank!lol.

We do travel quite extensively that's why i have to get this tank as automatic as possiible.

Wow, can I have your job. :D

Yeah, with all that travel you will have to automate everything. Not mention keeping everything as simple as possible so that it will lessen the chance of having something go wrong.

lol, i get good vacation time but not the $! Right now the 90 gal i got is pretty much automated. The only thing i do is wipe the glass and do water change.

Thanks for the info and link. How about when the sand starts to turn brown in some areas? I'll increase the bacteria to decrease the film algae and hopefully the isolated areas that are starting to develop some hair algae...

thanks again

The bacteria should eventually out compete the algae in your system. Sometimes, if an algae is being very stubborn the best method would be to turn your lights off for 48hrs so the bacteria can get an upper hand.

If you are getting a light dusting on the sand I wouldn't worry too much as this will come and go from time to time. ;)

Sunny, Great thread and good work keeping it up.
I actually started at the begining and read all of it. Printed of some of your material as well. I actually ordered some micrbactor7 to give shot. I have a 90g bb and already have pretty low nutrients. My new sump doest use a fuge as I couldnt keep macro algae.
Everything always reads 0 even the phosphates. Using a friends photometer.

Thanks again for your value added work here.

Funny thing is that every time I increase the bacteria dose I get more film algae. I have been using zeo bak and increased the dose from 5 drops to 7 and the result as more film algae. I dose the bacteria 2 times a week and this morning was the first time I increased ( by 2 drops)

Thanks! :D

I see we have another convert to our little cult here? ;)

We are glad to have you along for the ride, and I really appreciate your support.

I have read a few of your skimmer reviews and have enjoyed them all, full of detail and pictures. Great job!

Are you getting a white or lighter green than normal film on the glass. These are usually signs of excess bacteria in the system. What size aquarium are you dosing into? From the sounds of your dosage you are sitting at about 150-180gl??

The film is brownish green. Total net volume is about 220-235 gallons.

Hmmm........... all of your PO4 and No3 readings are low as well? The only thing I could think of would be that Bacteria maybe the bacteria is driving down the O2 levels thus increasing the availability of CO2 for the algae to grow.

Or, it could be that the bacteria has cleared your water allowing more light to hit the panes of glass. In any event, you would be better off just dosing 1 drop a day for now. The Zeo bak is pretty potent stuff and dosing that much twice a week may be causing the issues.

Of the two above, I think that more light is hitting your glass....

Sonny,

My PO4 a couple of months ago was about .02 -.04 recently its has risen to .07 to .08 measured on Hanna. Have not changed feeding. NO3 has been consistent at about 5 or less on ELOS test kits for several months. My concern started when PO4 started rising about a month or so ago. It topped off at .08 and have not been able to get it below .07. I'm starting to see increases in Hair algae film algae and brown deposits on the sand. Getting confused.

Well, it could be any number of things that is causing a rise in PO4 and I dont believe that the bacteria would be one of them. I have overdosed with bacteria on multiple occasions with no harmful effects.

Send me a PM with a little more info on your system(dosing, levels, equipment, picture, etc.) I am sure we can figure it out. :)

Sunny,

Whats your opinion of GFO usage with a dosing system such as yours?

My system is almost 3 years old and I am interested in going to bacteria to give it a kick and long term success. But I have always used GFO, so I am curious how it plays into it.

Great thread man, and nice to see other people kicking butt with T5's! Been AWOL for like a year and it seems like many people have taken a liking to them.
