Sunny, I'm running a sunlight supply tek w/ 6 bulbs and I'm thinking of going with the Aquactinics 7 like you have or the ATI powermodule w/ 8 bulbs.
My tanks a 120
Your thoughts

sunny, have you ever tried bright LED's to see if you get any "ripple lights" in the tank while using the t5's? i'm wondering if the super bright 10k or blue led's would give the effect.

Well.... after reading THIS I plan on using all Aquascience bulbs the next time around. I may throw in a Fiji Purple but I am still not decided on what combo of Aquascience I will be using.
In the test above the Aquascience blew ATI away. The growth comparison photos were shocking. :eek1:

Sunny - I read that too and it is interesting, but if I recall I think KZ has some affiliation with aquascience? Also, according to Grim's tests, the AS Special has less PAR than the ATI AB special, and the AS 22k has much less PAR than the blue plus. Also, I actually like the AS Duo as a white bulb over the AS Special (it puts out more PAR, which is surprising since it is supposedly higher kelvin). One other thing to consider is that in those growth shots, some of the initial AS frags appear bigger, and flow can also make a big difference (the more tightly packed growth in the AS colonies could be indicative of higher flow). Not saying the study is without merit, but from a scientific standpoint I would not say its conclusive. Having tried the AS Special and AS Duo personally, I just don't like the special, and have switched to using ATI instead because I like the color better. I do like the AS Duo tho and will likely use them again. Like everything T5, give them a try yourself and see how you like them![]()

The spectrum of the AS bulbs is better because of the 5-band phosphorus, instead of three. If that causes this increase in growth, I don't know...
Of course there are more aspects to take into account, like PAR and personal preferences for color.
Compare these spectrum graphs (hope you don't mind that I post them here, otherwise PM me):

Sonny, I hope you don't mind me posting this. I'ld like to get yours and others thoughts or suggestions.
While reading through some of the SPS threads I started noticeing not many if any of you guys are running a refugium. Currently, I'm running a fuge with cheatomorpha/macro algae and having great growth{cheatomorpha/macro algae}.
My SPS will not color up like most tanks I've seen on RC.
I'm running an oversized skimmer{Octopus Dual 250 Recirculating}. Also useing filter socks.
Wondering if I'm removing to much and its not allowing the SPS to color up, thoughts?
So my question is. Why are you not running a fuge?

Thank you for the graphs Leonardo. I have always been interest in changing lighting spectrum's in order to increase color and growth. I wonder if the Aquascience's will bring out different colors than I already have. hmmmmm.....

Interesting, I may have to give the AS 22k bulbs a try. What do you think about the spectrum of the Duo bulbs? (ATI doesn't really have an equivalent)

Is that carib special grade sand that you use white? Or is it like a tan color?
