SPS Shallow Reef Tank Build Thread

Ok, Ive done three treatments of flatworm exit...and they still pop up... Those webby strings are still there..

I am running out of things to do about it :(

HELP!?

How many flatworms do you still see? How long between treatments do you wait? How long is the actual treatment period each time?

Right now is see like 20..

I leave the tank with the flatworm exit for a couple of days..then i do a water change and run carbon.

Im going to break it down. Im gonna cook the live rock..kill all life including bubble algea. Im gonna scrape the s**t out of it with a BBQ grill brush.. Im going to add more flatworm exit..let the tank run for a week... Then do a water change, add clean rock..and see what happens.

Any opinions on this?

Thanks

You definitely are not dosing per the instructions, and those flatworms may be immune now. They should start dying immediately when the tank is dosed.

Have you tried mixing up one gallon of tank water with a drop of FE, then put in a flatworm and see if it dies? Add another drop, and observe. Add another drop... repeat until you know how many drops per gallon it takes to kill them, then you can treat your tank the same way with the correct ratio.

Treatments should take 1 to 1.5 hours total.

If you want to cook LR, that's your choice. It takes months to get it renewed. A few hungry emerald crabs, fresh from the LFS, should help with Valonia.

What happens if i throw the rock in boiling water and scrub it?? Will it kill off anything that may be causing the webby stuff and the bubble algea? Im running out of ideas..LOL..

Might as well soak the rock in bleach and let it air out over 24 hrs. Rinse and throw in the tank. Easier and quicker then actually boiling the rock.

I just want to kill whatever is in it..LOL..without killing all the coralline. I wanna kill all the bubble algae crap and whatever is making all those strings of goo...LOL

I have a couple of those, Looks like vermatid snails. One snail I have is attached to a 9"clam and the other to a rock. I took a pair of pliers and just yanked it off of the clam. I am having trouble reaching the other.

FWIW,

I had a lot of vermetid snails in the first 4 months or so after setting up my tank. I attribute it to a lot of turkey basting. I don't recall doing anything differently but eventually they all disappeared. I haven't seen one in months and I'm still blowing my LR off with a turkey baster.

So don't despair.

Any pics of the tunze? nice. nice nice. =)_

The Nano streams?

I just ordered a Tunze Nano Wavebox :D:D.. Ill post pics/vid when i get it :D!

I didn't think regular flat worms caused any serious problems. Mine got to plague proportions a few years ago then totally disappeared before I even bothered to try killing them.

Now AEFW's...that's a different story. They scare the tar out of me.

UPDATE:

I received my nano wave box and its pretty cool! It took a while (a frustrating while) to tune it in but its working really good. I have a good sized wave going along with the two nano streams.

The tank has been cycling and so far no signs of anything..i still wonder what that goo was..

I am now waiting for my ATI Power Module..:D..
