St Jude Tank teardown Saturday 4-22-06!

Question...where are we getting the water to fill the tank? Are we going to let the RO unit just fill the tank, or are we getting water from Kermit's, or what?

Also...do we have new sand to go in the tank yet? If not, do we have a source to get some...I figure it will take 120 pounds or maybe a little more for about a 3" sand bed.

You should have my application by now.
Again, I didn't get it. Are you sure the number is correct? I just mailed everyone in the Pathology department to see if it might have been routed to another machine.
Sorry about that.
Alright. Problem solved. Since I didn't specify that the application say "Attention Barrett" one of my coworkers forwarded it to the Volunteer department. So never mind. I got you application. Thanks.

I was just thinging I would fill it from the RO/DI unit. So that way we're not having to lug 200+ gal of water through the hospital. I will need a couple of buckets of salt though.

I haven't gotten any yet. I'll check with Kermits. If its imperative that we have it now I'm sure between all our sponsors we can get 120# Otherwise I was thinking about getting the rock and sand at one time.
Also, Security will be aware of us Saturday and anyone wishing to arrive early (or late) need only tell the guard at the gate that your're with the WTMRAC and they'll issue you a visitor parking pass. There will need to be an employee present with the group at all times (for safety/institutional reasons) so if I need to go to the zoo Scott will still be there.
And Redhawk... I'm hoping to not have any complications. If it does go over into Sunday then I'll blame you for jinxing it.

Yeah, ole Sam was full of them. Here are a couple more.

"Clothes make the man: naked people have little to no influence on society."

"It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt."

...OK, I'm done.

I have a gig Fri night at Mulligan's (Quince, come on out and party a lil!) We wont get home until like 3 AM, but I *really* want to lend a hand if its needed. If we are late, is there a cell # we can call or a cell we can call ahead of time to see if we are needed? I really want to help with this but I will just be getting myself together at 1PM.

Hey MarineFlake and thanks for the offer. I forgot to mention that in the clinic areas (which is where we will be) We'll have to turn our cell phones off. It will interfere with the medical equipment in there and there is a LOT of it. A general contact number you can call that can be routed to us in the clinic areas is 901-495-3300. This is the operator. Just ask for the information desk in the B clinic waiting room near the fish tanks. They should be able to route your calls there.
Talked to Danny and he's solved my fish wrestling dilemma. Laundry bag! That big grouper can't be caught with a bass net so he suggested settling a laundry bag in there (the ones that look like a cast out net) and bag his behind! Worth a shot I say.

I can now be there at 1. I am not very familiar with St. Jude. Where are we supposed to meet so we can be escorted to the tanks.

Second question. Is there anything I need to bring?

Thanks.

Larry

Alright yall.
If your coming in on 40 stay in 40 till it becomes/splits into Sam Cooper. Stay on Sam Cooper till it deadends into East Parkway. Right on East PKY. make an immediate left onto Summer/North Parkway. Take North Parkway till you pass Danny Thomas. Right after you cross Danny Thomas you'll begin to see some construction cones. They will push you into the Right hand lane. The next intersection you come to is basically a 4 way. Right and Left both lead to guard stations. Turn Left Here. Tell the guard that you're with the West Tennessee Marine Aquarium Club here to work on the tanks at the B clinic. They'll give you a parking pass and send you on through. The road will curve to the left and back again to the right. As it makes that right you'll be between two large buildings. The one on the Left is the parking garage. Just park in there. Walk out of the garage and cross the cross wals to the building with the full glass front. That is the airconditioner for the hospital. Cross the other cross walk and enter the hospital either at the large enterance before you or at the other one to the left. The left enterence will go straight to the guards desk at the Atrium with the flags. The first enterence (directly across from the cross walk) is the ARC. Go in a bit and to the left is another doorway. Through this and directly ahead of you is the guard desk. Theres lounge chairs there for you to sit in. I'll come and lead you to the tanks. Arkansan's cross the bridge and take front to Auction. Right onto North Parkway. Cross 3rd Street and be looking for the 4 way. Turn Right and goto the parking garage. Missippian's take 55 to 240 (continue straight) and get off on the 40 exit to Arkansas. Take the Danny Thomas exit (South I believe) and turn Left onto North Parkway. Then at the 4 way turn Left and goto the parking garage.

Barrett,

I thought I was going out of town Saturday, but it turns out I don't have to head out till Sunday. Is it to late for my wife and I to volunteer to help with St. Jude tomorrow? We could bring filled out volunteer forms with us.

In case Barrett does not see this, it is not too late to volunteer, and yes, you can bring the forms with you.

This is what we started with...

Remember that most if not all of these fish were a foot or longer.

This is some of the 14 people that volunteered...

Next weekend Barrett and I will pumb in all the new filtration and start filling it back up. More pics will follow.
