Standby Generator .... and Apex

I am curious if anyone is running their 2016 Apex with a standby generator, and if the latter kicked on were there any problems? I've found mine to not particularly like my portable generator, even though it is a newer model that claims to supply 'clean' power for sensitive electronics. FWIW, the 2016 model seems more sensitive .... had no issues with my lite.

No first hand experience but totally possible.. I'm quite positive they do not do extensive EMI/EMC,etc... testing..
Solution may be as simple as some ferrite beads clamped on it to maybe plugging it into a UPS..

Of course it could just be that its simply losing power during switching from one to the other.. UPS would solve that too..

I'll let you know. I'm adding a whole house generator in next few weeks and I have 2016 apex. I'm more concerned with how the 4 Hydra HD 26 lights handle the power switching over to generator.

Just as further explanation ..... recent storms in the NE have lost me power a few times. The first time, I kept the apex connected and ran it off my portable. When the mains returned, I found that the on/offs had resulted in some of the modules getting new addresses ... and the programming was not carried over. In the case of one of my EB8, all of the new outlets were set ON, which could have been a problem. Didn't happen with the two EB832, which is where I have the critical stuff connected, but still. Trying to work out if a standby unit would be better in this regard.

Yeah, that's a good suggestion, thanks. Don't know all that much about these things, is there something in particular that I should look for?

Not really.. Solving issues like that can be a black art and lots of trial/error..
Even the best of Engineers hate EMI/EMC/ESD issues,etc... They can really be tough to diagnose/address.. I cringe and cross my fingers when my products are being tested for stuff like that..

What is it you are wanting to do with having your Apex hooked up like that? If it is to just monitor temp, ph, and stuff like that, then a nice UPS will do the job. However, if you are wanting to run Apex components and the like, then I really don't have a solution for you.

we lost power for 26 hours in one of those noreasters.. we had our apex (the new style) plugged in and running off the generator with no issues. what is a UPS anyways?

Wonder if it just something with the new apex? We loose power all the time, sometimes several days a week at a time, often times its several on/off blinks in a row. Never had any issue with my "older" apex and a standby genny or portable. Once powered back on it took over like nothing happened.

I'm toying with getting a proper standby generator. My portable works, but only if I am home to set it up .... and I travel a lot for business. After all these nor'easters, and being in Vegas for two of them, I feel I'm playing Russian roulette with the tank. So my original question, clear I thought, is to see what experiences folks have with the apex 2016 running off a standby generator, and whether it creates any problems. I have had some issues with the new apex reassigning modules when communications are severed. Maybe it's just my unit, maybe it's not ..... thus the question. If I cannot trust the apex to be stable when switching between utility and generator power, then it's a problem. It also could be that I'm 'pushing' even the new unit to its maximum in terms of modules and outlets.

My old apex jr works just fine on the standby generator. It’s a 40kw.

I know that doesn’t help your actual question.
