Looks like a mandarine goby sticking its head out there

just got back from hellboy, sorry for the fuzzy bubble photo, my battery was low i was afraid i wouldnt have enough to upload it. after reading a bit it seams they like low to medium flow capn, so its in the lowest flow portion of the tank.

capn: its my algae blenny, he turns a bit dark when hiding in the darker purple coral line.

flamron: after a couple days of reading , the thinner the cup the harder to keep, but i only have a weeks exp keeping one, my cleaner shrimp was taking food from individual polyps and closed up quickly.

swift: i have been thinking the same thing about the corals i want to buy. i have been doing fw dips but thats it, these were my first corals i have bought(others came with the tank) so i didnt have the supplys even if i wanted to. i am putting in an order soon and would like to include lugols for some piece of mind, you have sps so you might want to look at getting some interceptor from a vet and treating your sps coral before you put it in the DT.

my problem at my local stores has been the different algae i see in the tanks and on the corals, so i am also haveing to drive 100 miles to a LFS that is actually only SW.

edit: thanks for the post melev, thats the info i was looking for also, you mention The next day, I'll dip the coral in various solutions.
any favorites for certain types of corals?

I've heard pagoda cups are difficult to keep....Is that true or opinion?

Not IME. when most things were not doing so good in my tank my Pagoda was always doing great. Got two one in high flow and one in medium high both under strong lighting. I would say the one uner high flow is doing a bit better. I noticed they are very good at catching foods from teh water so may be target feed a bit.

Still trying to decide if I should take a couple of frags of one of them or not. one has those two separated polyps on teh edge which I could easily take off.

I thought I could find a post of mine somewhere that had it all typed out, but alas...

No matter what I get, it goes into my quarantine tank first for a 12 hour bath in Interceptor. One tablet can handle 400g, so I crush it up and use a small amount in the quarantine tank. One tablet can dose that tank five or six times using the tiny Salifert spoon from one of my old test kits. Just mix it up in a cup of tank water until it is completely dissolved, and pour it in. Remember that shrimp and crabs are at risk with this product, which we use to kill red bugs.

The next day, I'll dip the coral in various solutions.

A small bowl of tank water with 4 drops of Iodine, which is mixed first the nthe coral goes into the solution for 5 minutes. About once a minute, I'll squirt it with a turkey baster from every possible angle, flipping the coral over as I try to blow off any pests that might be hiding.

Rinse in another bowl of water.

Another small container of tank water and ReVive is used to remove any AEFW. 4 capfuls per gallon, so perhaps one capful is enough for your bowl if it holds a quart of water. Turkey baste it a few times, and be sure to remove it from the solution within 5 minutes.

Rinse in a bowl of tank water.

Study it closely, very closely. If you see nothing unusual, you can now place it in your tank.

In a couple of days, I would then pull it out and secure it to a frag plug or rock. I think with all the dipping and meds, it would probably be too soon to glue it down the same day. Too much stress for a coral means it may not survive.
Thanks Marc, that was exactly what I was looking for.

aka, Satan.

besides all the spitting sand at me and moving sand all day long she(i am guessing cus of the behavior) has been a great fish, she did get a small piece of shell stuck on its side last week but she worked it out it seams.

kudora, the reason I say the next day is because the first day it is in Interceptor for 12 hours or longer. My quarantine tank is always running, ready to go. I just have to top it off to keep the salinity right. The snails in there keep it clean.

Marc, do you think those additives are available at fish stores, or will I have to order them online?

I know Iodine isn't hard to find, but I've never heard of Interceptor or Revive.

ReVive is by Two Little Fishies (Julian Sprung's company). Most LFS should carry it or at the very least bring it in.

Interceptor is prescribed by vets only. You must go to the vet to request it, and you'll have to explain that you are trying to kill saltwater fleas on your corals. If you give them the link to my page, I think that will help. A box runs $40 to $60, or about $8 per pill. Like I said, a single pill will treat a 400g system, or divided up can be used for about 5 to 8 quarantine baths.

I use interceptor on my three dogs--good for tics too:D
comes with heart worm medication too if this helps

grrr skimmer problems already----One pump is only pumping water and vibrating like crazy the other pump has shut down and refuses to start at all.
The base of the tank has partly skimmed water in it---if I shut the other pump down then it starts to drain into the sump.

Any suggestions?

I have been dipping my corals in lugol's or Tropic Marine Pro-Coral Cure

Aaron, I just checked your gallery and you do have a nice tank you are building---have you not started a build thread yet.

You can share pics here with the clubhouse group you know:D

and we would love to see them:cool:

What pumps do they use on those skimmers?

I haven't heard of those pumps before so cannot be of much help but I'll try. Did you do the same mod as TJ on them as TJ? Perhaps you could try contacting them.

The mesh mods were already done on the pumps like TJ

I think the one pump that is not coming on at all is faulty. I am just puzzled about the other one that is one but is not pumping air.
I don't understand how skimmate gets into the main body of the unit---that is dangerous IMO--if you turn off the one remaining pump the body starts draining into the sump:eek2:

2frosty4u is on his way up to help so if anyone can figure it out he can

Thats got me puzzled too. Is there any spare pumps you have that would fit onto it until you get the problem solved?

hope you get your skimmer going capn, i dont have much exp with skimmers so i will be more of a cheerleader while your problem is fixed.

Sound like the mesh mod Scott. Open the pumps up and take a picture of it.

Sometimes they cut them too large, and they need to be trimmed back a little.

Also, on my 160, if the pump was not securely in the connecting hole on the skimmer body it would vibrate.
