there's thousands of links. using UV for purifying water has been around for years. Labs use it of course, but most other water purification processes have that at least as an option.

http://www.home-water-purifiers-and-filters.com/ultraviolet-filter.php

Even th ewater used to spray produce at grocery stores is purified, and depending on the class of store, they may use sediment filters, RO/DI, and/or UV. It would be stupid to sell organic produce and spray it down with crappy water right?

Generally being untreated and such, well water is much more likely to have stray organisms. I live in an area that was farmland not too long ago so there are plenty of "nutrients" in the water supply as well as the probability of various bacterium we wouldn't want alive in our systems.

The part I need to figure out is how to connect the UV through my LLC so that it is only on when the water is running. Also, I would bet there is a minimum flow required to operate a UV lamp safely, so keep that in mind.

Jon, with aqua FX unit i can control the U.V with the electronic pressure valve which control the pressure pump as well as the U.V... Please don't quote me on this, i just assumed it work that way :D

Hey,

I never thought of running a UV on my DI system? Do they make a smaller type "cartridge" size one like the cartridges for the RODI or, are you retrofitting the UV to the unit?

This sounds interesting details, details!

The U.V will be install after the DI. It has 1/4" fitting It doesn't come as a cartrige. It looks like a normal U.V except smaller fitting. You don't have to retro fit anything. It is pretty much plug and play...

whay after the resin? seems to me you would want to kill stuff before it gets into the mechanical filtration so it cannot colonize there.

It would be cool if you can get a little of the ultra violet light in the garage..

Eric, the unit appear to be really small. I will post pic as soon as i receive the stuff.

That is what the guy at Aqua FX told me but you know you can do whatever you want :D. I think it better to run it before the unit too...

Finally Bob at Reefmania finished my Zeovit reactor. It is 11" outer tube , 10.5" inner tube, very small hole in the bottom place to avoid small rock get into the bottom. With this design the water will have to go through the inner tube to the top. I am going to use the Eheim 1260 to feed the reactor. BTW, it is external with 11/2" return...

Well it looks great! I have to admit that I have not kept up on, nor read much on Zeovit. perhaps someday I will...

I use it before for couple years and i love it....

Great looking reactor Steve, looks like it will serve you well. Once again, top-notch equipment for your tank. Are you planning on using Zeo from the start, or are you going to first stabilize the tank then add it gradually?

Mike, i will go full Zeovit system from the start. With Zeovit method, it help speed up the cycling process. It is the same size reactor as your dude

We can slowly move stuff in on the 15th. You know the tank will go in first then the rest of the stuff. The official move-in date is 1 April so i have couple weeks to do the plumbing and get the tank up and running. Anything after 1 April will be hectic ...
