you might want to consider going LED. This write up sounds very appealing:

DIY LED

My friend offer his 6ft long PFO LED fixture for 1/3 of the price but i wouldn't dare to mess with it.

Update: (more like changing my mind) instead of running 4 tunze waveboxes @ 60w each pump. I will seal one of the outlet on each dual wavebox and use 1 tunze 6305 on each box. That way it will help with the electricity... :D I better get it up and running before i decide to change the tank

You better have a tray under your tank to catch those water spills.... :D

come on steve i want to see pics... this thing is going to be killer :D

I am not sure what type of killer the tank going to be but so far it has been killing my bank account in the past year and a half. Now i need some help for next weekend moving the tank into my new home. I will have food, and drink (You know :D). My friend Mike will let me borrow a truck. I should have Dan and his brother, Terry and may be 1 or 2 more. The tank only require 5-6 person to pick it up. I have no problem carry the tank when its off the stand. Due to my vertically challenge i need some help getting it off the stand...

Just found your new (well, new to me anyway) thread Steve. I haven't been looking at any new threads lately, just the few I've subscribed to. I've been wondering what you've been up to lately. How's your little girl? Our little guy is growing up fast @ 8 months and he's babbling and seems ready to run a marathon although he's not quite walking yet.

I'm suprised to see the King of Reef Equipment scaling back to save on electricity. Now I know the economy must really be bad.

... actually, I think it's a smart move. I've been very careful about equipment selection with mine for the same reason. I've really slowed down progress on mine over the last few months. My goal is to get my sumps made and plumb it so I can leak test everything by the summer/fall. I don't plan to have lighting installed and livestock until next year. Just playing it safe in this crazy economy... not to mention my car hobby has been getting the best of me too. ;)

Andy, How are you doing? My little girl is the same way. She doesn't want to stay still and she eat a lot. As for the lighting, 4 bulbs will cause light spillage which is unnecessary. The reflector is 24x22 so 3 will be plenty for my tank esp with the help of 4 ATI power modules. California edison will increase the cost of electricity again so i decided not to make them rich. It is good to be safe, just take your time and enjoy it. As for Car hobby, it will cost more than fish lol

I think my electric has gone up about $25 in the last three years. I never paid attention to how much I'm paying per kw/h. Natural gas has probably gone up about 50% over the same time frame..

Yeah, but the price of a house in your town went ape over the last ten years. Way over the top for that kind of area IMO.

True, but mine dropped about 100K with the current environmental law in Washington... The gas drilling has just about stopped. Down to 33 rigs in the whole county. Which is another thing... Why is my natural gas increasing since they have a new plant just a few miles from my house:lol:

Everything went up but the economy going down badly :(. It will take a while to recover. Even with 20% discount on electricity i still have to pay close to $400 monthly with the tank running....

I don't envy your California electric rates!

I pay about 60-80 a month for the tank. $100-120 for the whole house in electric. But about $300 a month in the winter for gas.
