BTW took 2 hrs to go thru the entire thread!

Thank you Greg...

Wow nice tank. How come you have such a large skimmer? Couldn't a BK or two have worked just as well? Are you planning on adding more to the system?

I do plan to have a bigger system in the future. Plus i like commercial equipment :D. I rather have too much then not enough.

BK? I used to own BK400ext and have it run my 240g cube. I trade it for frags couple years ago :D. With this system i either go with ATB or H&S not BK nahhhhhhh

My tank have 3 new members today. A friend drop off 3 good size Bonbonius Anthias. He can't have them in his tank because his Crosshatch want to have it for snack... Lucky me... Will post some pic as soon as i get to see them.

I did some dirty work today on the fish food. I bought a large sheet of Mysis and Blood worm rinse them out with RODI water then mix them with ROD's food of two type one sheet of each plus half a bottle of garlic. I hope my fish will enjoy the special recipe :D. I am going to mix more stuff with my frozen food. here is the list that i want to do.

ROD's food
Mysis
Blood worm
Krill
Ocean blankton
Fresh sea weed
reef nutrition oyster egg
Reef nutrition Artic pod
Frozen rotifer
Frozen Cyclopee
Garlic extract

I will mix them all and make a sheet out of it. So every time i feed, the fish should get everything...

Sorry Jarhead. I wasn't pushing BK. I was asking for you to teach me a little about the big skimmer and it's purpose. It's rated for much more than your tank size, easily triple your water volume...I am guessing. What was your reasoning? I am assuming that you put your homework in with all that nice equipment. There are lots of nice skimmers like H&S or ATB, that would skim your tank good. Why so large, when those companies have skimmers sized closer to your tank. Thats why I asked if you had plans to expand, I was thinking that you had some experience or something that you could expand on. Or why you didn't buy skimmers closer to rated for your tank. I am not sure if that makes sense or not. Hopefully it did. Just learning from the masters...I guess.

Hello Robyn, my original plan was having the 480g display with couple large prop system to achieve the volume up to 1500g system but that plan has change due to the size of my garage plus i can't convince my wife to part her car outside (for now). So i decided to change the plan and go with just the display, large sump and a small prop system. I pick such large protein skimmer because i like to have oversize equipment. I want to have couple hundred fish and feed them at least 3-4 time a day. My protein skimmer capable to handle 5000g system per H&S therefore i think it is perfect for my need. Imagine couple hundreds pooping every couple hours in such small tank... You will need a good size protein skimmer to help remove as much as possible :D.

On the side note, i never go by what the company rate their product.

FYI, beside my wife everything else i like it BIG

Quite normal IME with using dried rocks... presume it's micro size, right??

It will continue to do so for a month or so and then it will all go away. Dried rocks have millions of tiny holes in them and it will take a few weeks to get rid of them.

Just think of them as 'settling in'

That is what i thought. I also thought that the bacteria working their way through the rock ... Shhhhh, don't tell anyone cuz that is really silly. Took me hours investigate the issue. I turn off the tunze to make sure it wasn't coming out from the return. Then make sure the tunze did not suck in any air.

Thank you bro. How is your tank?

Tank is doing ok. Going thru the motions right now with Cyano,etc....Also battling with Low Alk and Cal right now. Trying to decide how best to keep my levels up. 2 part or Cal Reactor???? My two waveboxes quite working last week, so I need to take them out and clean them, and see if I can get them to work without sending them to Roger. It seems to be a constant battle keeping my tank up with as much travel as I have been doing this year..... Your tank is looking great though. Would like to see some different angle pics of your rockwork. The pics you posted from the front look like there is ALOT of rock in your tank.

Looks good Steve, I added sps to my frag tank the same day I set it up LOL I lost a few but within a couple months everything settled in and colored up but it did take a while to really look good.
Just be patient and the colors will get there but I think with a new tank it will take a while no matter what method is used.

That said I have been thinking about pulling my reactor and trying the balling method, you were talking about it a whiole back, why did you decide to go with a reactor? Would you consider trying balling ever?

I have approx 400- 500lbs of rock in the tank. I agree they do seem to be alot but it is very open. As for the Tunze, what exactly wrong with it? Any alarm? I don't think you are due for cleaning yet. Have you check the transformer make sure the light is on?

As for Calcium and Magnesium supplement i like the reactor better but most people like the dosing.....
