Steven,
Is theblack acrylic piece the back of your tank?
Or is their an inside clear acrylic piece?

I need some input and recommendation from reefer who live in the east coast or COLD state :D

After a long discussion with my wife, she demand her living room and dining room space :(. I will put my tank in the garage :( which will benefit both side.

I don't have to worry about water spill as well as the evaporation. But i need to insulate the garage. I plan to build a little room using half of the two cars garage for my reef tank. I want to be able to view the tank from the inside as well as the outside of that little room. As you all know Colorado getting COLD in the winter. Beside the space heater (Gas operated) what else do i need?

As for the insulation plan, i am looking for a local company or contractor who can pump the insulation into the wall without breaking everything down. Or should i break the sheet rock down? I have never live in a cold environment before therefore it is kinda hard to make sure my tank stay warm in the winter...

Any help or suggestion is much appreciated.

Steven,
You need to keep your pimp hand strong my brother.
Tell your wife that the house does not come with a living room and dining room.
That it comes with a fish tank room and dining room. :)

Worked for me many years back.

Yeah... Let me try that tonight. If y'all don't see me in the next couple days. You know something is wrong :D. Well she did gave me an option. I can put the tank against the wall. Who in their right mind would put an peninsula tank against the wall?

gas heaters, 50" Sony plasma, lazy boy, microwave, pillows blanket, no need for toilet and sink thats what sumps are for, i know you don't use blow dryer :D. thats should be it for now until your wife change her mind. all this could be avoided when you said i do and fill out your fish application

LMAO, let skip the 50" plasma, Lazy boy, Microwave but i may need pillow and blanket. No hair dryer cuz i am bald :D. I agree to use the sump for other stuff. I don't need her to change her mind because i am getting tire of her nagging about how big my tank is. Let set it up in the garage :D. I feel more peaceful there.

so you mentioned being able to see the tank from inside even though its in the garage.

which room will have the tank view?

you should go all sweet now and epoxy up the whole floor :D

*edit, I see how I misread your post now jarhead*

wrt to insulating the garage, what about the garage door? my garage is already insulated but the door itself still lets in alot of hot/coldness. would it be effective to just layer some of that blue insulation foam onto it?

I will do the garage door too. I saw kenny (pookstreet) did it to his garage door. epoxy for the floor is also a good idea.

I want to be able to view the tank while i am inside that little man made room that i build in the garage :D...

I was a bit confused earlier i kept getting emails saying Steve's 480g Upgrade and i dint remember subscribing but then opened it up and Voila, you had changed the thread name :D

ok hold off on the 50" plasma. maybe 13" tube modified TV tuner w/pair chopstick wrap in aluminum foil for now until 2009 comes around then you need to upgrade to digital. 3 layers of two-part epoxy from lowes, making it easy to maintain. one layer wasn't enough as it disappears into cement. Steve hangs out w/kewl peeps here on RC :D. noting fancy on the garage doors to insulate them using pink foam from HD same materials used for glass tank bottom.

ya the foam seems easy enough, but I wonder if adding the foil layer is worth it. kenny claims on his thread that its great for reflecting radiant heat, but Ive also heard that it wont add much. thoughts?

oh ya and I know what u mean about the garagefloor soaking it up. i got some 2part tileclad epoxy from sherwin williams and they recommend using a primer for cement/masonry. no reason to waste expensive epoxy to saturate that pourous vaccum of concrete.

Whatever you two just said is way over my head. This is my first time own a house. Can you guys please explain it a little more

Jar*Head, tell your wife she can decorate around the tank/room however she likes if it can stay in the house. :)

at home depot or lowes you can find large sheets of polystyrene foam. Ive seen it in pink or blue (not sure if theyre both polystyrene). Its pretty easy to just buy large sheets and cut it up using a straight edge and utility knife.

the metal ribs in the garage door should make it possible to just pressure fit the foam in once you cut it close. measure the thickness of the empty space in your garage door panels to see what thickness of foam to get. you can double up layers if needed.

that rustoleum stuff looks nice. I really want to do that in my garage, but I think I may have made it more difficult by installing this room the way it is. http://www.worstkind.com/aquarium/painted.jpg

the 'room' is actually about 1/4" elevated off the ground and then backer rod makes the difference. i wonder if i can just let the garage floor paint puddle up against the backer rod?
