Need some help with decision :D. I have two protein skimmer (BK400ext and H&S A-300) both rated for 1000g system. I can't run both at the same time because my corals will be starve. Which protein skimmer should i run consider both have the same performance.

I was thinking about running the A-300 during cold season because the 3 eheim will help adding a little bit of heat and the BK during hot season. What do you think :D.
I haven't owned a BK, but do own the H&S. I would not buy another H&S with all of the trouble I have had with the Eheim pumps.

What kind of trouble do you have with the eheim pump. My old H&S pump work very well.

BTW, your tank inspired me :D

Steve, if you put the A-300 in QT, you can sell ER to JFlip2002 :D

Where in the world can you find an 5 months old ER 250 with an eheim pump for $400. You are the man dude. I will have a collection of protein skimmer in my garage.

Here is my list

BK400ext
H&S A-300
NS 4000
ER 250 with eheim 1262 NW
I was gonna buy the H&S A-200 2x1260 yesterday. But i need the money for my tunze :D

Unlike the Eheims pumps used with the Deltec skimmers, H&S uses metal washers which have broken down in less than a years time. This was one of the worse that I had removed. It had actually started to eat through the impeller shaft. (No photo).

I now keep an extra set if it should happen again. Deltec's don't have any metal in the impeller section of the pumps.

Suppose to be 84x36x24. Since this is my last upgrade, i am not going to settle with something less then 8f long and 4f wide :D. She'll get over it...

ROFLMAO Somebody is going ring shopping soon, very soon.

JK, Good luck with your man cave, maybe you should think about a Futon in there? You may need it before your done ;).

I can't help you with the skimmers, they are way out of my league at the present time. I know th BK rocks though, and I would kind of lean to selling the other for more man toys or colored sticks for "7" foot tank :)

Got a few quote from the insulation guy today as well as the HVAC guy. The insulation will cost around $1000 using spray foam, $700 for the cellulose but i will go with the Spray foam.

$150 to run a duct vent into my garage for heater.

Still waiting on the Epoxy guy for the floor :D

This thread is great! Not only are we talking about the planning, or should I say the build:), of what will be an awesome tank, but we are also talking about planning stages of building man caves!!!!

I feel like I belong to this thread, heres why. Im in the finishing stages of getting my man cave done. I excavated my basement, which originaly had 6 foot ceilings and a 75 gal full of colored sticks, went down 4 feet and will now have 9 foot ceiling hight down there and 180gal :). My portion of the basement was originaly going to be a 10x10 square room but since I realized id be spending ALOT of time down there I made it 17x10. Going to have a 7x10 foot section of this cave as my fish room with inwall tank facing my office (cave) will probably add a futton down there. Needless to say my wifes jaw dropped when she saw the new wall partitions bigger than planned:lol: Going to be instaling radiant floor heating covered with marble tiles. This is going to be a high end man cave:)

Every man should have his cave;)

I try to make my cave as simple as possible but presentable. I really like to have a basement but my town house doesn't come with one. I will make the best out of the garage till i buy a new home.

"Every man should have his cave "
I totally agree with the above statement. We all should have our own comfort zone and away from everything :D. When i discuss with my wife about having my aquarium in the garage, she thought i was crazy because no one will see my tank unless they go to the garage. IMO, the reef tank is a personal enjoyment not for show. I want to put it where i can enjoy without getting the "NAG"
