Stichodactyla Gigantea - Flow Video

What do we think? Enough? Not enough? It should also be noted that my Vortech is set on Reef Crest Random, and the bottom skirt DOES become lifted off the glass intermittently...it just doesn't show it in this minute-or-so clip!

You should increase the flow and have 2 powerheads crossing there currents going into the nem. These carpets really like random flow.

I would say a little more flow, there is nice random flow going on in there and it can be seen. I would just say up it a little.

Otherwise that is a AWESOME anemone.

It looks pretty healthy. Can't wait to see it when the tentacles get longer:D I am jealous! I would use a little more flow(you saw what i like), but what you have might be perfect. There are many ways to skin a catfish...

Nice carpet. I've actually seen some climb all the way up the rocks to sit next to the powerheads in a LFS. So, I'm guessing, they just really love the flow.

I agree. Mine has moved back on the rocks so it is out of the flow more. He is still moving around just not as much as i thought he liked. I guess he knows best:)

I think you have enough flow, it is just that it is new and is still holding its body pretty tight. When it starts to relax a bit it will be much bigger and the flow will move it around a lot more.

It seems to have wedged itself into a rock formation, so it's not laying out flat like I had expected. However, it's still "sticky" (when I feed Mysis to the tank, it catches some stray pieces), and its mouth is closed tight.

I noticed it getting smaller at night, which alarmed me at first, but then I read that that's fairly normal. I'll try to get another video tonight :)

Well, I've had my Gigantea for 9 days so far. It has PRETTY much stayed put, except for moving up the rock a wee bit. It hasn't flattened out as I see other Giganteas have done, but it's still "sticky" and its tentacles seem to be longer now than they initially were. I may also be imagining things, but it seems to have darkened a bit, which is a good thing. Compare the two videos and let me know what you think!

Mine is in the same position as yours. I placed mine at the top of the rocks, but he let go. Now he has his foot planted at the rock/sand interface, just like my Haddoni. He seems to like it there much better. Yours is just amazing!

Update: After withdrawing a few inches into the rocks, and sort of wedging itself into a hole for a day or so, it has emerged once again and is full as ever. It ate a chunk of raw fish yesterday, which was encouraging. :)

It's been 38 days.
