Tahitian Honeymoon

Hello,

This is going out to anyone who has travelled to the islands of Tahiti (French Polynesia) for their honeymoon, vacation, work, etc.

My fiancé and I are considering going there for our honeymoon.

Just wondering if there is anything you would recommend that we do or anything that you wish you had/hadn't done while you were there.

So far we're considering doing a multi-island trip visiting Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, and Rangiroa but we don't want to be constantly moving but we don't want to miss anything either.

Other than snorkelling/diving, what other activities are there to do there?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

There is tons to do there and the landscapes in some of those islands are truly breathtaking. But I have to tell you, I travelled A LOT and French Polynesia is among the top 3 most expensive places I've ever been to, especially Moorea and Bora Bora. So, if you are on a tight budget I would recommend somewhere else (and there are tons of other places just as nice, but cheaper, one that comes to mind is the Seychelles).

A piece of advice, skip Tahiti and go straight to the other islands, too many people there, busy city. The best diving is in Rangiroa, but there is excellent dives in the other islands too. Do some hiking in Moorea and Bora Bora. Not much to do on land in Rangiroa, it's a flat atoll.

I just dove Rangiroa (Rangi) last June (2009). Definitely a dive destination, but if you are not a diver, not the place to go. WARNING: This diving is not for beginners! There are ripping currents, but this in turn attracts the pelagics. Sharks, sharks, and lots of sharks! Definitely a world-class dive destination. Bring your reef hook too!!!

Bora Bora you have to go to Bloody Marys

Diving Top Dive in BB was great, first day out free dived with a couple whales, if you were able to keep up with them. BB Top Dive was great.

Top Dive in Morea wouldnt let us stop with any whales. Since there was a group taking people whale watching and I guess they own all the whales in Morea. Those guys were whiners when they took me diving. They blamed me for breaking a tank valve. After crewing dive liveaboards for years I could not believe how they treated their customers.

Rangi was really cool.

Stay away from the mainland and take ferries when you can to cut costs, they are comfy and fast.

Overall really pricey but glad I went.
