Tank ID/Drilling

I want to convert a 180G dual tower reef ready tank (drilled through) to a ghost overflow. Obviously the bottom is not tempered (it's been drilled), and I don't see anything indicating the back is tempered glass. There are no manufacturer labels, etc. - there is an "œassembled by Tim T A107Z1". There is a warning sticker in front-right-bottom corner that says, among other things, "œdo not drill glass enclosure." I did a polarized sunglasses test and it seems clear. I really don't want to mess this up though. Anything to make me comfortable I can drill?

IME, predrilled tanks are often tempered after the drilling, so don't take the fact that it has holes as proof that it is ok to drill more.

If you have done the polarized glasses test correctly and it is, indeed, not tempered on the back panel (and many are not) then as long as you adhere to the "no hole closer to the edge than it's diameter" rule you should be just fine.

Its the same tank I have but in a 120g. The bottom is tempered but the sides aren't.

Also the tank is a Aqueon

That's their stock warning sticker you see on all their larger tanks at least.

I called them they said none of their larger tanks (including the 180G) are tempered.

Interesting, I was under the assumption Aqueon tempered all tank bottoms after drilling.

Well to be fair, I was only asking him about the sides. I did not ask if the bottom was tempered post-drilling.

My Aqueon has a tempered bottom.. I used the lcd screen/polarized glasses to test..

Personally that would bother me
It says it two more times one bottom and sides of the label
Unless i knew for sure who the manafactuar was and called them i wouldn't unless i was willing to risk it

I do believe Aqueon has a lifetime warranty so drilling would void warranty. If it's a second hand tank, obviously this wouldn't apply to you.

The surface has some blurrs. It should work, but I would drill from inside tank toward outside, and put tape on the outersurface plus a piece of wood clamped on top of tape. Also start the drilling on the inner surface by counter clockwise (reverse) so the entry of drill bit is clean.
