Tank upgrade --> 300 Gallon Marineland Project

I had to cap off two of the skimmer recirc pump ports for the downed pump. The uniseals are leaking now. Anyone know if AT has uniseals for 1" PVC and what they run?
 
I bought some uniseals at Salty not too long ago...They were like $3 - $3.99 for 1/2" ones. Don't know about AT.
 
I have the dual media reactor from Bulk reef and I like using a mag drive 5 to power it. I just use the flow restricter they provide to regulate the flow.

Was also thinking about redirecting the return flow from the sump to the main tank, This way if the main pump fails there is still circulation.

I would love to have the carpet but have too many nice tangs to risk.
 
FYI - I have purchased tangs from NY aquatic and Reef Hot spot. I guess I am just lucky, all doing well. I purchased a beautiful Naso from NY aquatic and it developed a strange disease on it's head. I have been soaking Nori in Vita Chem and now all the tangs healthy and eating out of my hands.
 
Thanks for the reminder. I have a mag 5 sitting idle in a box that I forgot about. I'll use that and I am certain that will do the trick.
 
The pluming is easier with the mag drive pumps - just use standard fittings. I have used maxi jets on home made Kalk Reactors and de nitrators and I will never do it again. They just are not as "robust" as the mag drive.
 
I found the Gold Rim tang rolling along the sand bed. The carpet must have spit it out during the day. It is getting pulled and moved the sump tomorrow morning. I'd move it tonight but there there is a chance of a rock slide and I don't feel like taking that gamble right now.
 
Update:

The Blue Haddoni Carpet anemone was removed from the display tank today. It is headed for a home specifically setup for anemones. I was sad to see it go, however I think it was best.

I had been thinking about adding some BRS equipment to my tank. I finally found the time to get it all put together. I am running a Mag 3 feed pump, 1 GFO container and dual carbon containers. After 6 hours of running it. I can see a big difference in my water clarity. I have not had any activated carbon on this system since it was installed.

Here is a shot of my new air/wave box. I saw this used by serpantman and I felt every big tank should have one. My AC crashed due to a bad capacitor in the condenser unit out side last Sunday. The tank shot up to 86.1 degrees. So far most of inhabitants seem to be ok.

I have an iwaki 70 in place. I probably could have gotten away with a 55. I had two of them so it made sense to go ahead and use them and have one as a back up.
 
Hey Mike, how's that fan working out for you? I was surprised at the difference it can make even in a large system.
 
The fan is working really well. I haven't gone above 80 yet with it tied into my controller. I need to figure out a better way to mount it. I have it sitting on one of the lids to my sump. It is in the way for filter bag swap outs.
 
I took a trip up to the critter yesterday and picked up some new uniseals for the skimmer. The design of the new uniseals are much nicer than the old ones I took out. I thought I was going to blow my own o ring trying to slide the pipe in through the uniseal :). I was scared to death I would end up cracking the body of my skimmer. I am certain I will need to replace more of the uniseals in the future. Is there a solution or trick for getting the pipe inserted without having to exert so much force?

On another note, since the removal of the carpet anemone all of my fish are still alive.
 
You're going to laugh but they were talking about this on Reefcast. Using a food safe, water based lubricant supposedly works well and won't damage the uniseal. Melev was using astroglide, lol.

bhahahhahhahahahhah you were right! I did have to laugh at that one.

I was up in Geneva yesterday. Did you get my text I sent ya? I wanted to try and stop by while I was up there.

I got up early yesterday morning to tend to some tank chores. I had some small bits of cheato that had got past my sump divider. I stuck my hands in the water and I thought it was a little chilly. I looked at my AC3 and it read 78.3 degrees. I didn't think to much of it at first. So, as I continued on cleaning the sump out my cooling fans over the sump started clicking off and on. I took a closer look at the controller and the temperature started to swing, 78, 77, 76.... It went up and down and up and down. My suspicion started to rise. So, I grabed a water jug and scooped out about a half gallon and placed my Ranco temp contoller probe in it. Afer it leveled off it read 72 degrees! To sum it up the old style temperature sensor failed. It was the very small skinny model. I went up to Saltycritter and they had the new larger and more solid probe in stock. I took it back home and plugged it in and the water was up to 75 at this point. I think it is time for a seperate indenpendant temperature contoller.
