TDB's 320 SPS Rebuild

I have a pretty large frag system, I usually trim and place in that system for aquaculture then distribute. Tank pays for itself in the end.

However, I have been watching a friend put a 560 together and it has me thinking about going with a 1000G. Thinking a low profile system.

Hey Tom,
Great looking rebuild! I love how you did the rockwork in this one for premium room for growth. I know you have been experimenting with lights a bit and it sound like you settled on the radiums. May I suggest the XM 15Ks if the radiums are a little too blue. Those lights pack some par and I think complement blue leds very well for a great overall color. I have also fallen in love with ATI aquablue + T5's for white supplementation. My current lights that I just switched out were all diy royal blue leds with a few cool whites and two ati aquablue + to get some white and two ati blue + for some added par. This was a great combo. The old led build was showing its age though so after looking at your (and others) old tank under evergrows I just put two of those over the tank and will be adding T5 white supplementation with aquablue + this weekend.

Can't wait to see your tank fill in especially with those awesome fish you mentioned!

PS. I definitely notice the difference in blue you mention between royal blue and the evergrow blue, but I think I actually prefer the royal so a bit disappointed in the evergrows so far.

The XM 15Ks are known, amongst the advanced MH hobbyist, as one of the lowest PAR producing lamps in the whole industry ...

Not sure where you're getting that aforementioned info from ???

Either way, the 14-15 kelvin spec is dominated by the [overdriven] Phoenix lamp; for good reason

I just saw your last set of pics and wow, the tank is looking amazing! Your colors are great. As sahin said, "future TOTM" I can't wait to see this a year from now

Happy Memorial Weekend All, Had some time to break out the Canon - Enjoy the Pics!

Wow, just fantastic!

A few annoying questions if I may. :)

What bio pellets do you use? Do they control phosphates or do you still use GFO occasionally? What levels do you try and keep nitrates at?

What temperature do you run the tank at?

Thanks!

Wow so MANY colorful and healthy acros !!! I am so jealous.
Maybe I have missed it, how long did you cycle your Macro rocks before you put the live stock in?

What are you doing to get that absolutely insane growth rate?

I don't mean to be cliché but stability for me is the Key. I keep my alk between 7.5 and 8 and only had one drop to 6 since Jan which I corrected right away with two part. My temperature only moves a half of degree. Dose Acro Power "“ one cap full every day I am not dosing Oyster feast which I do twice a week. High flow and good quality light and that is it.

Thanks! I do run BRS bio pellets in a DIY re-circulation reaction. I am only running about 250 ML and have set as low flow as I can get it. I only used GFO when I had a large phosphate spike after I removed my sand. I am not sure if it came from the sand or the new rock leached it but ran it for 2-3 weeks. My corals started to look very bad and I stopped it and the phosphates have stayed down since. My nitrates always register light pink and average ~.2

Thanks Again, I never cycled the rock and not sure why, it looks like a lot of effort. This is the third time going with a lot of marco rock and I do see some high phosphates early on but nothing a cup or two of GFO can't handle for a couple weeks. As soon as you see the color fad in your corals it is time to stop GFO and phosphates stay low there after that.

Thanks for the response! How about tank temperature? :)

I'm beginning to think that for phosphates barebottom IS the key. If I take out GFO my phosphates start to slowly creep up so it's a matter of running just enough to keep them low without stripping them.
