That's it. I'm done

No offense Bent, I hate you had the troubles but I have enjoyed this thread. Great work on you and the rest here. If you need anything from Central Missouri don't be afraid to ask. Good luck and have fun with the rebuild.

No offense taken. I'm just shocked I decided to get back on the horse this quickly. Usually this kind of thing takes about a week or two of moping around and throwing stuff.

Maturity maybe?

Anyway.

So what are the odds of going through another cycle after I get this tank plumed into my current system? Keep in mind all the rock and animals are downstairs in the stock tank and refugium. The only thing that's dried out is the sand from the display. I was afraid to scoop the sand considering my recent nitrate problem.

I'm happy to find it out but who knew? I certainly didn't even think about it, just assumed it was a 40 gal. :fish1:

The inside dimensions and water level will give you a better idea of the actual gallons in the tank...

Absolutely it will measuring from the inside. I totally didn't even think about how many gallons the 40b was until you posted that formula, it never even dawned on me that it would be that much more.

Here's where everyone is staying temporarily:

That actually looks pretty good dude :)
Is that an engineer goby? If I can selfishly derail your thread for a sec, how do you like him? I'm pondering one for my 120

Truthfully, he's awesome, but it does have its caveats. I don't know if it's just the animal I have, but he's super aggressive. He won't go on the offensive, but anyone unlucky enough to venture into his hole gets chased out pretty quickly. He also nips at passers by. I've never seen him bother the mandarin, which is strange. But everyone else is fair game. I've read that single specimens tend to act like this, become reclusive and basically grouchy hermits. So it may be wise to get two or three. I think he's only out in these shots because of the new surroundings. Also, I'm sure you know, he digs like crazy. So you just have to watch your bottom corals. My brain has gotten buried a couple of times, but no harm done. He also likes to dig under stuff, so making sure the rock work is resting on the bottom of the tank is pretty crucial. However, after he digs his holes, he pretty much quits and just hangs out in them. I rarely saw him digging anyme in the old display after the first few months. I've never actually seen him move smaller rocks or anything either.

All in all, especially given the fact that they are better in groups, it really scratches that "eel" itch pretty effectively.

As long as you have a decent amount of rock you should have no real cycle.
Depending on age of sand it may be a better idea to go w/ new dry sand, and maybe just a scoop of your old to seed it.
Stand looks fairly clean and sound.

Well i just bit the bullet and ordered one of those eBay overflows. 135 bucks sheesh. I could have bought an entire tank, but it's done and I can move on when it gets here.

Congrats! And thanks for the goby advice, I'll see about bumping someone off the stock list to make room for a pair. That'll be cute too. Seems like the type of fish to impress non-reefer buds.

Yes, 40 breeders are not really 40 gallons at all ;)

Not quite. Measure the inner dimensions, with general water depth at 15.375" (more than .25" up from the top trim bottom edge) and you'll come up with 41 gallons.

Sure if you take the listed tank dims, which is the outer dims (could be with or without trim) and you'll get a near 47 - 48 number. But, that's not how many gallons go in.

All listed tank gallons are approximate. But 40 on a standard trimmed 40B are close.

Hi Bent,

Once you your new tank's up and running, let me know if you want some free EZ SPS frags (monty digis and caps).

FWIW, I'd ditch old sand and replace with new. But that's just IMO.

Good luck,

Mike

I will 110% take U up on that thank you!

What is your and others reasoning for ditching the old sand?

You may not have to bump anyone. Other than bio load they don't take up much space. Honestly I would forget mine existed from time to time and not count him. He was that reclusive. They don't take up much room.
