That's it. I'm done

#1 - turn it into a positive and make it an opportunity to get a start on an upgrade. Even if it's just a big tank that looks a little empty for a while until you fill it up it will hopefully get you excited again!

Sorry for your troubles - hang in there!

I vote Option 1. You had a 55, right? Get a 75. Better footprint, same equipment.

You've been around long enough that you might get a few of us to toss you a few bucks via Paypal or something to help out with the loss. I figure it's a pay-it-forward deal; I have about 6 guys willing to put together frag packs for me after they heard I lost nearly all my SPS stocks in my tank transfer. Pitch me your Paypal info and I'll send you something to help you get on your feet again.

Man, what a bummer. I quit the hobby for years after a very bad series of events so I feel ya'

Cheer up and I hope you stick around and choose option #1.

Sad to hear but the journey is always better than reaching the destination point,,,the negative stuff is the past and now focus to the future,,,bigger, better tank..All your rock and other stuff is ready to go,,get a new glass box and put it together,,bigger, better now...
Your getting an upgrade and be happy..
God just gave you a nudge to do it..LOLOL

Slief, good advice.

d2mini, good cultural reference. Probably a lot of the youngsters here won't get it. ;)

Bent, I hope you choose option 1. What happened totally sucked, but you have the skills to make it all right again. Hang in there man.

So if I do get the 75, should I reuse my sand? Should I try to cook it like rock? I've never reused sand before.

I dont like to reuse sand. It is cheap enough to just get new sand and not have to worry about any trapped badness with in the old stuff.

If you don't mind killing off the good stuff as well as the bad, just put it in buckets, fill with water a few inches over the sand, swish it around and dump out the water. Repeat until the water is clear.

i would probably chuck the sand.

how close are you to Pittsburgh? i think i have a 5 gallon bucket of new, washed, sand in the basement, along with loads of other pieces and random stuff.

Its hard to walk away from something that you have put so much time and effort into. I did it recently. The cost is something I'm not prepared to get into again. I still cruise the forums and read about the problems of those with far more knowledge/tech than I. I feel the frustration. Good luck.

You'll be that much more prepared when you take it up again :bounce3:

Aw thanks!

It's about 4 hours from Pitt. Probably a little far.

I've reused sand. Just be sure and wash it out real good as recommended.

After all, even 'new' sand has to be collected/cleaned somewhere.

The rock would be tougher. No matter what, you'll end up with a new cycle on the rock.

This hobby is directly connected to our emotions! The highs are intoxicating, and the lows are nauseating. Sorry to hear, hope you stick it out.
