Yeah I saw those strainers and thought about using them as well. Would have to paint it though as that green is awful looking.

Lowes here in Upstate NY is MUCH MUCH better than HD when it comes to selection. Curious though, what dept (where) does lowes carry the black ABS (havn't looked, but don't remember seeing it offhand)?
 
Here are some shots of my single-prop 900 mod. I originally was going to do a dual-Nitro setup, but ended up with this b/c I destroyed all my Nitros and extra Dumas props trying to widen it to fit on the rigid airline. I will try D's recommendation on using the dremel bit on the next one...

It was in the plumbing section. Same aisle as where all thr 4' cuts are located, opposite all the full length PVC tubing.
They had 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 and 6 inch pipe. My piece of 1.5 was about 5.00, the 6" piece I thing 3 ft. was 12.50 or so. This was the Lowes in Holmdel,NJ.

Nice pics Jon770... Is that the 3 suction cup adapter holding the other in place? Nice work on the mod!
 
Can you image the sand storm when those suctions cups give way and land in the sand bed. You would probably churn up the whole bed in a matter of minutes.

I didnt tell you guys exactly how I stopped mine from BUZZING SO BAD!!!


I took the Crossbrace off... Replaced it with a better one... HOWEVER...

I also did this.. I took the Prop Assembly off.... and put a small peice of Rigid Airline on the Rod before I put the Prop back on... .... I readjusted the Prop Stop and TADA!!! instant quite..

just a slight hum now... no more than a standard MJ... or my sump pump...


the KICK ON noise is a bit much for me...

and I do have a problem with the way Ive got it rigged up...
I need to modify my other MJ1200 for this to be ok...

Right now I have the MODMJ and the REGMJ on at alternating intervals... this difference in current is SCREWING around with the corals... today after being gone all day I noticed that the area of the tank that was getting ALOT OF CRAZY MAZZY FLOW was where my Torch's were and they were NOT happy!

so... I am not running the MJ MOD right now... going to wait untill the other PROPS get here and MOD the other MJ... that way it will be more even...


I have ordered 2 more NITRO PRO FISHERMAN on TH sent Next Day Priority... that they should get here by wendnesday....

I still have PLENTY of carbon rod and stuff..

LOL, they sent me 1 pack of Nirtos, some CR, and glue in thie BIG OL' @$$ BOX ...!! LOL... it was HALARIOUS!!!!

Yeah, it is the 3 suction cups, plus one more on that bracket/hook thing. I was worried that it might come loose, but it looks pretty steady. In fact, I was looking at it and for over a week the whole thing was being supported by just the one suction cup on the bracket...the bracket part itself was barely even touching the 3-suction cup adapter. I repositioned so that it was getting the support of all the suction cups, but I'm not too worried about it at this point.

Originally I was going to put the hook part over the top of my tank, but it is too narrow to fit. So I just hooked it into the 3-suction cup adapter for added support and it seems to be doing the trick.
 
Give your corals a chance to get used to the flow. I know when I moved one of the MJ to a new location they didn't like it, after a few days they adjusted. Even the ones that were being blasted by 295 gph. Now if you have 1800pgh directly on, you might want to change the powerheads locations.

The Maxijet hook/hanger bracket will fit onto the tank's trim. Just force it a little bit is all. That's how I was able to use mine.

Jon770, I agree with rich. Don't trust the suction cups. They may work for a month, 3 months, or a year, but eventually they will fail and when they do it will be a real mess.
 
Hey guys I finally got through all of this thread and now I FULLY understand this mod (if only everyone did before posting :P). I do have an idea that may benefit some folks out there looking to make a big daddy. If you take a larger test cap and cut the center out like so (this would be a top down view), so that it would attach to the MJ, you could easily use larger PVC. So instead of using the "rim" of the test cap to grab the clips of the MJ, this cut would allow you to use much larger diameters. You could do this out of thin acrylic too I guess if you could cut a nice round circle and was able to fit it perfectly in the size PVC of choice. Im surprised noone has tried this yet (or perhaps they have and just havent posted).

If you saw it before, i just changed it a bit. I noticed a flaw in the design :P. It was envisioning the "clips" on the MJ as facing outward, not inward. This design would allow it to use the inward clips. Sorry for the crude drawing...here at work I dont have any good drawing progs..
 
Thats a nice idea... you may have to cut out along the inner curve on each side so that you can then twist the cap so that it catches under the clips. Nice outside the box thinking though.

Very nice. Only thing is... There comes a point when the MJ's can't turn the larger sized propellers (2 inches and larger) anymore and you would need to go to a larger pump which would have a larger port hole diameter anyway.... So a larger test cap would do the job there I would think. I used a 2 inch test cap on a JEBO AP1500 powerhead and it worked just fine.

I actually was accounting for that in my design, but the scale isnt such that it was obvious I guess. Again it was a pretty crude drawing. Even making circles within eachother in paint isnt easy lol.

As for putting too big of a prop on there, I see what you mean. Throughout the thread it is mentioned to "find some way" to easily attach a larger diameter pipe...I just figured this method would work for the 1.75" - 2.0" props. By no means did I want to give the impression that these pumps would handle a huge prop. But for those wanting more kick than the 1.25" would kick out, I think this would work well.

If You had access to a CNC machine or were super good with a rotary tool you could do it NP. I would probably do it out of 1/4" acrylic and just taper down the areas that would slip under the clips on the MJ. Then the wall of the "connector" would be thick enough to really make a good strong joint inside the PVC as well
