I think your shroud would have to be longer than 2" to fit 6, 3/16 slots in....

I did some calculating though. The area of the 1.9 dia. outlet is 2.83 sq. inches & the area of my slots is the same. It should work but I'm at the minimum.

Maybe not exactly 3/16" but they're bigger than 1/8" I think. I don't have one infront to measure right now.

Actually there is plenty of room in 2 inches to fit 6 3/16" slots. If you check out my photos on page 26, the PVC "slivers" in between each slot is much narrower than the slots themselves (est. 1/8" maybe?) so...

(6*3/16) + (5*1/8) = 1.75

It is technically possible. But like I said I don't have the exact measurements handy :)

I think you should be fine with your shroud design.

Gotcha. now thats funny!

Im working on my #2 mod... and this one is VERY short compaired to the other one.. only 2.5 inches of ABSPVC pipe...

so...

I have figured out a way to get almost as much flow out of it with a houseing, as you could without one...

I noticed that when I turned it on the sink with 2 props, the flow was CRAZYYY MAD... but when you add a houseing to it, it greatly decreases...

So... I have made the worlds first ABSPVC swiss cheese!! haha

It worked in the demo before..

Im about to go try it now that it has dried... WISH ME LUCK GUYS!!!

I LOVE MJ MODS!!! this is so much fun, I think Ill do about 10 more... just for the heck of it..

... then again maybe not!

I am having a challenge. The soft airline tube is breaking on me. I am running it dry to find the center point of the shaft. I figure the most quite point is the center and then I will glue the brace. The soft airline is cutting in half, as if the torque is to much. I have a mj1200 with the dual dumas 1.75 inch props. It has broken on me 3 times.

Any ideas?

Are you using the blue or the clear air tubing? I tried the blue, and after two weeks it tore in half. I now have the gold o'le fashion clear tubing cause that stuff hardens like nails once it gets old.

I am using older clear tubing. I have had it about 2 years.

I think I have it figured out.

Let me ask this if it is working correct. When I get it running, no rattling and centered, I hold the whole unit about 1 inch beneath the water and it pushes the water up. There is not a lot of pushing of the water. I do notice that the cross bar does affect flow. Should the flow be soft, is this working ok? Maybe the props are on backwards?

My first attempt rattled like that. I did a better measure of the crossbrase center and that made the difference. I believe the shaft was rattling against the magnet. When you have it centered, you will be hard pressed to hear it making any noise other then a slight whirl when its in the water.

I decided not to run it dry because of the tube. It seems to hold up underwater. It rattles like crazy and stalls. I am going to drill more holes.

Any thoughts on the rattling?

If it's pushing the water up and not forward, your prop is turning the wrong way.The stop on the cross brace should eliminate this. The stop may be too far from the prop to be functional .If you turn the powerhead on and off it should start turning the right direction. It may take a couple of tries.

The first time I had them in I saw the water being pushed out of the slots. When I switched them around I noticed the water being sucked into the slots.

yeah, make sure you have them on the right way.. when I first did mine I had one on the right way and one on the wrong way. Back on page like 9 thru 10 it was disscussed.

I switched them around and according to page 9 the notch is on the inside, closer to the magnet, on the White 1.75 models, it is on the outside. Easy enough to remove the blade.

I will try it again. I am going to try a single prop first.

I think I finally found the issue, the dual 1.75 props don't work on the mj1200. One prop works great, two don't. Either my design is bad or the dual won't work.

I have a 1.5 test cap with 1.5 black ABS with slots, about 2" longs, then I have a 1.5 x 2 adapter. The blades are in the 2" section. I have 3 slots in the 1.5 abs and about 9 holes drilled in the 1.5 x 2. The blades won't spin, the unit vibrates like crazy.

What do you think?

Here is my "Bionicle" version of the mj mod. I cant comment on how it compares to the nitro props, but I got awesome flow. It was even better with 2 bionicle props. I used this.

It just fit 1 1/2 pvc. I like it because you can see if it is off centered.

I found the Bionicle at Walmart for 8 bucks so its kinda pricey. And you only get 2 props. Hopefully one of you guys will test this out and see if it even compares to nitro props. Its easier to drill out too.

I don't have the data link cable for my digital camera. I will drill more holes. What is interesting is if I leave it 1/3 exposed to air it will run, as soon as it is completely submerged it stalls.

Thats just awsome! Even if it is pricy, its kwl.. lol

I am humbled by your greatness. Yes more holes did the trick.

As the detrius blows around the tank is it normal for some of it to be sucked in? Water is being pulled into the holes and slots, my hair algea most is blowing away, but I do see some of it kind of float toward the props.

My son has those Bionicles. Maybe I can steal them from him and give it a try. :)

After all, I bought them. :)

Yes and you'll probably just end up replacing them for him too.
My wife would kill me is I start stealing toys from our son for this
