...As the detrius blows around the tank is it normal for some of it to be sucked in? ...

Yes perfectly normal. Hopefully now your skimmer will be able to pull all of that crap out now that you now enough flow to keep things suspended :)

Here is my "Bionicle" version of the mj mod. I cant comment on how it compares to the nitro props, but I got awesome flow. It was even better with 2 bionicle props. I used this.
...
I found the Bionicle at Walmart for 8 bucks so its kinda pricey. And you only get 2 props. Hopefully one of you guys will test this out and see if it even compares to nitro props. Its easier to drill out too.

That's very cool Deuce... But I have a feeling the Nitro propellers will create better flow than those IMO.

I previously tried using a small plastic cooling fan which is somewhat similar in design to those Bionicles. The flow I got was ok but not great I think even the Dumas props created better flow than that fan. The cooling fan and the Bionicles were designed specifically to move air and might not do as well in water. In order to move water efficiently, the props have to have very good overall pitch which takes into account the diameter of the blades as well as the curvatures and shapes of said blades. Those Bionicle blades looked rather straight and could generate quite a bit of resistance. Then again I could be wrong too :)

If anyone wants to try this out please do post results and compare against the regular boat propellers.

The flow with the bionicle prop feels as strong or even stronger than my Seio 1100s. I still got to fine tune it though. It wont stop spinning when its running in reverse even when it hits the stopper. I think I just got to extend it foward a bit more.

Oky-Doky Danh. And thanks for the reply. In another younger day I could have followed thru with the construction of something like this, but not no more.

Sounds like you might have gotten some fine tuning done with the boat props.
Got a mailing address?

Touch bases with me.

Thanks for the mod!!! Can someone confirm that my propellors are on the correct way?

Ok so I played around abit with the 1.75" Dumas prop /MJ1200 and a housing and this is what I came up with. Kinda rough but it works.

Actually this thing is so strong with just one 1.75" Dumas propeller that it knocked over some stuff in my tank.

I am guessing 2500GPH at the very least.

Looks right to me!

You guys Im beginging to regret ever doing this!!!

I have had more problems with these stupid things lately!

The first I created did fine, I had to adjust it about 4 or 5 times to get it to stop buzzing but it was ok, it still makes a loud turn on sound and also has started to every once and a while spin backwards....

the newest one I have made is a PAIN! I went through about 1 foot and a half for a crossbraceand a foot of CarbonRod... eah!
Ive got it to where it hums, but it is tolerable...

This is such a pain!!!!!

Hey D...

I tested the duel nitros on one of mine and got between 1200gph and 1800gph,

Have you tested that much, or are you just guessing?

Attached a bag at the output and timed how long it took to fill said bag. My result was 2 second per gallon which works out to be about 1800gph.

Fill us in.

What did you use for the housing and what size?
What did you use to replace the test cap?

The light grey piece is a 1.5" SCH40 slip coupling which fits nicely over my existing 1.5" SCH80 pipe (dark grey) used for the groove to attach to the MJ body.

Only thing is this coupling melts way too easily (hence the rough cut slots shown)when cut with an abrasive masonary blade. I might have to use a different blade altogether.

guys do you use the maxijets with a wavemaker??? just asking because i want to mood 3 mj 1200s to put them in my 120g for flow, just 2 of them will be on at one time
thank you for any info

I'm pumped, I get my props and rods today. Now I have to go to Lowe's to see if they will cut the 10 foot pvc in half so I can get it in my car.

Lowe's should be able to cut the pipe down to any size your want. Heck even Stupid Depot can do that. Do yourself a favour and use the 1.5" SCH80 pipe. The ID and OD of the SCH80 pipe is an almost perfect fit for the MJ which will make centering it a piece of cake.

their kinda noisy when they click on... and sometimes more noisy if they go the wrong way.

Yeah they can clatter around a bit on start up. But noisy when going the wrong way? Don't you have a stopper on yours?
