Thanks for the responses. I went ahead and ordered the external skimmer from Jeff. Great guy who took the time to educate me on skimmers and many other things. One of those guys that explains everything so well the choice of a skimmer became easy.
My new sump and skimmer are on the way!...

Do the life-reef skimmers make many micro bubbles in the outflow?

Very nice setup. Do you plan on putting your heater in the sump?
Yea. If I could do it over I would have ordered the svs-3. The 2 is a pain to clean out sometimes. But I only do it once every 6 months.Hello all I have been reading many post on this skimmer and after going through Vertex, ASM, Reef Octopus, Red Sea, Aquamaxx, and RLSS I have finally ordered a Life Reef SVS2-24. I am still very happy with the RLSS it has been the best needle wheel of the bunch. I like the fact that the Life Reef does not rely on a specific modified pricey needle wheel that can be obsolete in a couple of years. The fact that any pump within a specific ghp rate is awesome. I plan on running it with a MAG 9.5 or the pump from my current skimmer a Waveline 4000. I wish I would have known about these skimmers sooner could have saved me a lot of money.
Just realized it's 450 liters.
Still though, I think you'll be happier with a mag 12, or even 18.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how much extra heat is dumped in the tank with a Mag 12 pump or a Sicce Syncra 5.0 over the Mag 9.5? I've got a SVS3-24 on order for my tank with a net volume of around 60 gallons. I hear the bigger the better, but if those larger pumps dump alot more heat in my tank, not sure i'd want to do that. In the wintertime it's fine, but living in Charleston SC it gets hot in August, and I'd rather not heat up my house even more running a chiller. Maybe having a bigger pump wouldn't benefit me much because I've got a relatively smaller volume of water anyway.. thoughts?
