The Life Reef Skimmer Club

Hello all,

My SVS2-24 with mag 9.5 will be here on Tuesday!

Excited!

Sweet!! I love mine.

Be prepared to dial it in, then <--wait foooor it--->.... do nothing. Ha! Literally. Once I got mine dialed, I just clean the collector cup every so often and jut watch it operate..

I have a Lifereef SVS3 24 on the way. It will go good with the custom lifereef sump Jeff is going to build for me.:dance::thumbsup:

Hey I need y'alls opinions. Do you think it with worth the extra cost to Red or green acrylic on skimmer and sump?
Personally I say no but if you are going to show case your equipment and not hide it like me I saw go for it

Personally I don't think there should be an extra cost for color change of acrylic. Unless he is buying it in low quantity or the price difference between standard and color is such that it is warranted. Other than that it is a personal choice honestly. The way I see it:

1. If sump is closed off then NO.
2. If sump is part of the display, then MAYBE
3. If sump is part of display, plumbing and area is aesthetically pleasing, then YES.

I agree that it doesn’t do anything but it does look bad ***. It would be 50 now for the skimmer and 50 in February when he builds the sump. My sump is closed off, but was thinking of opening it up and adding a black light or something if I went with color.

For some odd reason what came to my mind when I read this is probably how a woman feels when she is wearing leopard print or lacy undergarments to work... :hmm2: But to your point if it is something you are considering to show via opening up then why not. Go for it.

I picked up a sump from him back in March I think it was and it may be visible. Standard color though. My tank rests on a steel stand so have a couple options in play to maybe box it in to match my wainscot. If I managed my plumbing a bit better I would consider leaving it open. I still may but in my case I went clear because I wasn't sure.

Good luck with your decision. I'm sure you will rock it either way :D

Well I went with the everything normal. The svs3 came in yesterday, and is already forming skim. Today my lifereef custom ATO container shipped out, when it gets here I can run my Tunze osmolator 3155 I got on Black Friday if I recall for a $115-125. Now I’m on to my next struggle getting the refugium led light nailed down for when I get my lifereef sump and refugium.

I personally do not use one but there are a few around the forums that use the MARS LED Grow Light or the RAYWAY 216W Full Spectrum UFO Led Grow Light. Maybe something to look at I'd wager.

Yeah I'll look into it. I have been looking into Kessil h380 if space permits if not h80, but now I will have another to look at.

I went with colored acrylic because I love green haha. When I asked him he stated he special orders the amount needed for a specific project and passes the cost of the special purchase on to the customer basically at cost.

I love the look of the green also, but a extra $200 I can use elsewhere. O yeah i wanted to go with like electric or transparent red.

Understandable I wasn't going to go for the colored acrylic but then saw some of the people running his signature series sumps in open cabinets and had to have it lol

What size pump are you running on yalls LR in sump skimmers? I have a Mag 9.5 on mine but was thinking about upgrading to a Mag 12. Would it be worth it? I already have to buy another Mag9.5 and a Mag12. Or I can just buy 2 Mag 12s.

Get a Fluval SP4... 1822 gph rated at 88 watts but actually runs at 50 watts when measured with a Kill-A-Watt meter. Also extremely quiet, German built with an Askoll motor block with none of the heat transfer issues that plague the Mag drives. And no, it’s not over rated for the 24 incher as Jeff runs a Mag 18 on his 24! :)

Just got my SVS2-24 and it has been running for about 4 days now. Fixed a small leak yesterday but having some trouble dialing it in. Little confused on where I should be looking to set my water/bubble line. Currently its right through "LifeReef" on the label(1.5" from the top).

I have attached a picture

That's too low. I think Jeff recommends starting with the water/foam line about a half inch below the flange and adjusting from there.

Depends on the pump. That's a little high for a mag 9.5 but just about right for the higher head pressure mag 12 and 18. Also, in my experience the skimmer took about a week to break down all of the manufacturing greases and start producing a good foam.

Anyone using a Fluval SP6 on a 30? I'm still happy with my DCS9000 but I haven't visited this thread in a while now, and want to see what else people are using on the 30.
